Exeter Act Three Has Been Released

It's pretty good, but I must say that I regret the decision by TPTB not to use the "Tholian Machine" visual design concept proposed by BJensen (

Now if only the download would stop crapping out on me a tenth of the way through...

:scream:

Could be worse - could be a torrent!
:D

That'd actually be better, since I'm sure tons of people would want to see this.

Finally got a chance to watch it straight through.

Well, we waited, and waited, and waited, but it WAS worth it! I really enjoy all the fan films, but these folks really are at the top of their game-nothing has felt as similar to REAL TOS as the product these folks have been putting out. Well written and acted, original in conception, and the effects look great! My hat is off to you!

Congrats to Jimm and Josh et al!

Just don't make us wait so long for Act IV!

Excellent!

How about that Exeter/Farragut/New Voyages cross over? Wonder how long that would take?

Hmmm, lesee, take the average episode completion time, add them together, carry the three, take the inverse tangent, raise the resultant to the 9th power, convert the units to furlongs per gigasecond, then take the logarithim and.....

Uhg, not in this or any other life time....

Seriously guys, GREAT work!

Tressaurians seem to have an inner groove going on at all times. The dance may play a central role in courtships and other social relations, on their home planet of...Tressauria?

One of, if not the, most successful CG shot in the episode IMAO. Hopefully Michael and the NEO folks will do more in Act Four.

Wonderful stuff. Imagine this team having a go at episodes of TOS remastered.

You forgot egos, and yes, most fans have very healthy egos given the plethora of captains and admirals at various conventions.

The real problem would be that there's some unfriendly history between NV and SE, and more importantly some basic creative differences in the way they do Trek. I don't think they would ever choose to work together (but I of course can't speak for them).

NV and Farragut have already shared resources and NV's Kirk, Spock, and McCoy did a cameo in the first Farragut ep. I think we may be treated to a Farragut cameo in an upcoming NV- but I'm just guessing based on a photo or two on the NV site.

As to TTI Act 3- AWESOME. I watched it twice, and I'll watch it again. It does exactly what a third act should do- ramp up the exitement, and end leaving you on the edge of your seat.

One thing this backseat driver would have liked to have seen would have been, during the long introspective briefing room scene, instead of just hearing Garrovick's thought, we could have had a flashback to him on Tangarro. Was it Kostnett who rescued him? Seeing Kostnett actually give him the advice, instead of G just talking to himself, would have been more interesting. But I nitpick.

I loved it. Another great accomplishment. Can't wait for Act 4.

What sort of unfriendly history between SE and NV? I couldn't agree more though with regards to some basic differences in approach to TOS. Both are great, but the overall feel of each series is totally different! Similarly, Starship Farragut also has a unique feel.

It's not worth dredging up - and anything that anyone other than the principals would tell you is second-and-third-hand rumor - half-truths, at best.

Let's move on.

Bear in mind that the whole Exeter narrative style is based on the TOS conventions, and TOS didn't do flashbacks. Garrovick's extended Captain's Log cum Narration already bends the style to within a nanometer of breaking. A flashback would break the TOS mold.

As to cross-over films, I'm almost catagorically against them on artistic grounds. In any story, especially something as short as a TV episode, the point is to tell a story as simply and directly as possible without distraction. One of the first things any screenwriter worth his salt does is consolidate characters and keep it simple. You beef up the parts you have, eliminate extraneous characters, and avoid distractions from the main plot and theme.

Also, inserting characters from other film series with other styles tends to violate the esthetic distance that's necessary to keep viewers drawn into the piece. You become aware of the "oh kewl" factor of seeing Captain Whatnot in Star Trek Whosit, and your're totally blown out of the story in that moment.

This is even better than Star Trek New Voyages. The production design and quality far surpass any of the fan-initated endeavors so far and it didn't have all the resources at its disposal that STNV or OGAM did. This shows just what a true fan produced venture can accomplish without hauling in Hollywood professionals. Much much inpressed and their SPFX are even better than the CBS redux of TOS and synergize seamlessly with the original show. Certainly they suffer the typical dragons of all fan franchises--a script that could use a polish, non-professional actors--but this is the fan equivilent of putting a man on the moon. Excellent work and I'm sorry to hear that this may be the end.

I don't know about that Jimm, seeing Kim Bassinger's breasts in that transparent suit she was wearing rate higher than Sean Connery's performance in that movie for me.
