News Exclusive: Scott Bakula Eyeing Star Trek Return In President Archer Series Pitch From ‘Enterprise’ Producer

They’d have to undo her death, and reveal it was a Changeling that got double-crossed by the Borg that was in her place.

Or just bring her back without commenting on it.

No, but a political thriller might have a higher-than-average legal drama per season. Since it would be about how the Federation became the Federation. Though it might just be one legal drama per season.

Oh, goody ... yet ANOTHER "origin of the Federation" story.

What are we on now ... number two? Number three? (Enterprise and the Star Trek: Origins feature film currently under development.)

Both United and Legacy have the premise of exploring strange new worlds. United just has the added context of building up a fragile Federation, and an Archer that has a family. Legacy’s context is a post-Fronter Day attack Federation, and Seven and Starfleet mutually accepting each other.

United would just be a continuation of ENT. Its basically season 5. Legacy is just a continuation of PIC, and is basically season 4 and without Patrick Stewart.

And besides, telling the story of the origins of the Federation wasn’t going to be told within the Berman-era 7 seasons format anyways. Its not realistic. That’s not how states are formed. There are always growing pains associated with it in the early years.

No one knows what Origins is about, other than its a prequel to the Kelvin films. And there hasn’t been movement on that in nearly a year.

Between Enterprise, United, and Origins, I'm guessing this would be number three. :shifty:

Any movie idea at this point (including that 'Kelvin timeline origin' movie) is dead in the water now that Skydance is in charge. They are going to come up with their own idea for a film.
A tale old as time in the picture business. When the new management comes in, the old slate is cleared to make way for the new.

Yes, but Origins probably won’t get made. Say what you want about the Section 31 movie, it was announced around the same time that Origins was and actually got made. Meanwhile Origins is still in pre-production when it was suppose to go into production earlier this year.

So, its just Enterprise and the United pitch. And at least the missions of the United pitch are clear:

- how the Federation became the Federation

- Archer the family man

- cloak and dagger intrigue between the Federation and the Romulans

Legacy’s mission is not as clear. It’s a bunch of characters with interesting backgrounds, but we have no idea where they are going to be sent to explore. The only thing confirm is that they'd be visiting the Klingons again.

I'm not going to lie reading that interview definitely has me thinking this is the strongest potential project floating around.

Kirk origins is being done well enough in SNW so Year One just has me like "why not just continue SNW?"

Legacy just eww no.

Kelvin universe is pretty dead, 10 years after a tepidly received film is probably not likely the most profitable move.

The Archer project has enough potential to be something actually unique and not just for ENT fans.

No. Sussman is taking notes from Matalas and Goldsman: give fans false hope for a project that will never see the light of day.
It’s also worth noting that Sussman to the most legwork to do.

Goldsman has cast and sets to carryover from SNW.

Matalas has cast from PIC to carryover and a pilot script ready, plus fan petitions supporting his idea.

All Sussman has is ENT rehabilitation that’s been going on since the Kelvin films. And maybe an NX refit model from PIC and a Vulcan cruiser model from SNW. It’s a blank slate otherwise. So, he has to make more noise than the other two to make his idea happen.

I'm assuming that once production wraps on SNW season 5, those sets will be dismantled like the Titan sets were after PIC ended. That, or they will be refurbished for a show that takes place 900 years later.

I really don't think he has any of that.

I think that NX model was low poly, since it was never shown up close. But that aside, Sussman would have to convince Skydance that an aging Scott Bakula can helm a show. Somehow I don't see them thinking that that's a million-dollar idea. It sure didn't work for Captain Sulu.

Scott Bakula is several years younger than when Patrick Stewart returned to play Picard. And really wants to return to Trek and in support of the show. Those parts matter too.

United is the only pitched show that I can see going the full five.

Year One is three years if its about Kirk’s first year and no other captain. The show would not need more than that.

Legacy goes four if Starfleet Academy is cancelled by Skydance and they retool that idea for Legacy. It’s probably a good way to get way from Legacy being considered the nepobaby show, or follow up on Berman-era characters show, and gives it a defined purpose.

Comparing Scott Bakula to Patrick Stewart is like comparing apples to oranges. And what Scott Bakula wants is kind of irrelevant if Skydance has no interest in him.

I personally do not believe Bakula has the star power to convince millions of viewers to purchase P+ subscriptions just to watch his show. And we're not even sure of the future of P+ beyond 2026 anyway.
