Evolution of TOS Opening Narration

"... regulates commerce..." *swoon*

And the ones that ended with "...a Star Trek!" Which actually makes sense but sounds terrible.

Fascinating read.
 
Those memos (also reprinted in Inside Star Trek: The Real Story) are great, showing the various hands that were involved in the show’s famous voice over. Sam Peeples, who coined the title for the second pilot (“Where No Man Has Gone Before”) also deserves a mention.
 
It's interesting to me that they didn't use Kirk's opening narration for the NBC promos:

'Arena' was also not the best episode to showcase the series. The story was reasonably good, but the look of the Gorn could be too easily connected to Godzilla-like things on first viewing.
