When I lived in Davis (see previous posts) I could have taken the bus, but biking was faster. There was even a direct line from campus to my home--no changes required--that ran every15 or 30 minutes. I could leave the bus stop on my bike at the same time as the bus and get home just before the bus got there. It couldn't be faster and usually took longer because I would have to wait at least a few minutes. In addition, biking was free and the bus cost $1 each way (free for undergrads, but I was a graduate student). There was really no reason to take the bus unless the weather was awful, which is rare in Davis. In a desperate attempt to get back on topic: What, is there no public transport available???
With my student card I can use the busses here for free and even go to a couple of other cities (some 100+km away) by train.
You silly Europeans and your easily accessible public transportation.
my bike is an old style yet new bike. its a reverse pedal braking bike with front and rear guards on the tires. Its made for a big person, one of the reasons why I got it.
Best to travel on the yellow middle lines.
Guys, you make the whole bicycle riding thing sound like a military special forces kinda thing.
Well, I'm sure you met more than one bicyclist while in Bologna, it's the most common mode of transportation for students in the inner city. You haven't truly enjoyed Bologna's porticoes until you have been run over by a drunken art student riding a rusty bike. Now, I loathe cycling (nothing against it per se, it's just not my thing), so what do I know.![]()
Yeah, I was just going to say you can't possibly have any clue about cycling. Italians do not use bicycles... ever.
That sounds like an awesome story.Another friend of mine cycled round Sicily on a tandem. Apparently everybody was being very nice to the "two funny gay guys on a weird bike" and they were invited to random meals and drinks a lot.
They aren't even gay but they didn't bother correcting that impression. 2 men on one bicycle was probably just too exotic for the Sicilians specially considering they just spent the nights sleeping under some big plastic canvas cover thingy on random fields.
Man, they have some stories to tell about that trip... Sicily will always stay in their hearts.
