Even more sacrilege. Quinto doesn't care...(+ more cast interviews)

Once again Trek fans, it's time to misunderstand what the guy is saying, warp his words and get outraged.
Go...:p

Here is Quinto’s thoughts on Trekkies reactions to his performance as young Spock:

"I don’t want to sound callous if I say I don’t care, but I don’t care. [laughs] I feel I brought the character as much heart and respect for Leonard Nimoy and the journey of the franchise as I could. I’ve done it with regard for them, and that’s all I can do.”

John Cho

It was fun . I liked jumping around from genre to genre when I can and sometimes when you do a drama it’s great to do a comedy to clean the palate and goof off for a while and vice versa. It helps. Even when I am doing some serious stuff sometimes I look for a way to make a joke in a scene cause people make jokes in life sometimes in dramatic situations because it relieves the tension . People do that . So my comedy sensibilities sometimes help out in dramatic roles and vice versa and doing comedy I like to think of it as a drama because generally comedy is about people that are having awful, dangerous things happening to them and it’s funny. As a character you have to play it like it’s life or death. So it’s funny how one feeds off the other.
Zoe Saldana

Actually there’s an androgynous essence to Uhura. Even though she’s very beautiful and her feminine presence is obvious, there’s this energy and leadership to her that sort of gives you that feeling that her sex appeal is probably observed and admired by the audience, but her coworkers just acknowledge her energy and authority. And I love that. She’s in charge of so many things and she has so much control of herself, her emotions and she is considered capable enough to run the linguistics department on her own, and I just find that amazing.

On the Quinto quote, good for him! A person can only take so much crap from the non-appreciative before they strike back.

Re: Even more sacrilege. Quinto doesn't care...(+ more cast interviews

Anybody who plans on making a profession out of acting in television and film probably already knows they will have to take the opinions of the general public with a grain of salt.

Having said that, he would be stupid to not care, as the opinions of the general public can determine whether the film will succeed or what his next role will be.

Re: Even more sacrilege. Quinto doesn't care...(+ more cast interviews

I've no problems with what he said. in the end, you have to learn NOT to care. it's the only way.

Re: Even more sacrilege. Quinto doesn't care...(+ more cast interviews

Well, if Quinto spent all his time sitting down and reading threads of nitpicking on message boards, he wouldn't have a career. He'll never please every last person who sees the film, so why agonize over the ones who didn't like his take on Spock?

Re: Even more sacrilege. Quinto doesn't care...(+ more cast interviews

Does he think that Trekkies won't enjoy his performance?

In any case, I refuse to take the bait. At least he cares about the role itself, and fought hard to get it - and that's kind of a rare thing these days it seems.

Re: Even more sacrilege. Quinto doesn't care...(+ more cast interviews

Yet another reason why I like Zach so much! He doesn't care, nor should he.

Re: Even more sacrilege. Quinto doesn't care...(+ more cast interviews

Well, of course he should care and probably does care. Everyone wants praise on their work, whatever said work is.

But after having seen the film I don't think there's anything for him to worry about. He was a good Spock. :bolian:

Re: Even more sacrilege. Quinto doesn't care...(+ more cast interviews

I dont care that he doesnt care. Its do what you feel like day, i dont care....

Re: Even more sacrilege. Quinto doesn't care...(+ more cast interviews

Quinto's probably still bitter about his eyebrows. :p

Re: Even more sacrilege. Quinto doesn't care...(+ more cast interviews

Trying to please all Trekkies would be like trying to teach ducks to paint.

The worthless goddamned things will just gawp and quack.

Joe, both

Re: Even more sacrilege. Quinto doesn't care...(+ more cast interviews

None of those are sacrilegious. I think they're pretty dammed insightful.

Can't wait to see this thing. :D

Re: Even more sacrilege. Quinto doesn't care...(+ more cast interviews

I'm having a hard time trying to figure up something to be offended about.

I'm having a hard time trying to figure up something to be offended about.

There isn't any, it's just more self-hate from one group of fans to another, trying to drum up more where it doesn't exists.

Re: Even more sacrilege. Quinto doesn't care...(+ more cast interviews

I am personally upset that Zoe Saldana into a character instead of a window dressing the way the TOS writers made her. How dare she try and broaden that character!

(Sorry, the OP said I should be angry, so I am).

Re: Even more sacrilege. Quinto doesn't care...(+ more cast interviews

I'm perfectly fine with what Quinto said.

The man already knows that the old saying 'you can't please all the people, all the time' needs to be amplified by 10 when you are talking about Star Trek fans.

It's good that he's making it clear right from the start that he's not going go try to please every single nerd in Nerdville....and that all he can do his stay true to his own version of his best.

Re: Even more sacrilege. Quinto doesn't care...(+ more cast interviews

Quinto got his praise from the one person who matters most... Leonard Nimoy. 'Nuff said.

He cares very much about the role and has a great respect for it and the franchise. He made this very clear at the '08 Vegas Convention and Nimoy is very proud of his portrayal.

Quinto also suggested that he has always been a fan of Trek and that he believes that trek fans are going to be very happy with the film and his Spock.

Re: Even more sacrilege. Quinto doesn't care...(+ more cast interviews

actually i have no problems with his comments.if every actor worried about what the fan's think it would make their job intolerable.i think he has the right mindset.

Re: Even more sacrilege. Quinto doesn't care...(+ more cast interviews

If I deride criticism from Trek fans, then I should deride praise from Trek fans as well. Seems only logical.
