News Evan Evagora as "Elnor"

I am really enjoying Evan Evagora's portrayal of everyone's favorite Aussie Romulan, Elnor. He has a Legolas (of LotR) coolness about him. A nice article on Evan's first meeting with Sir Patrick Stewart in The Hollywood Reporter.

I can definitely see where the Legolas comparisons are coming from and I don't have an issue with them at all. I adore the costuming choices and love a dash of fantasy aesthetics in my SF. I think the main reason I've latched on so strongly to the Elnor character, though, is because Data was my fave out of the TNG crew and, despite all the actual synths running around, Elnor's kind of this series' Data - the pure-hearted, inhuman crew member experiencing so much for the first time, dealing with new emotions, and bringing that dash of socially awkward humor to character interactions. I really thought Agnes was going to be fulfilling a lot of that wide-eyed newcomer role when she first showed up (though in more of a cute nerd-girl capacity), but obviously that didn't go quite as I was expecting.

I quite like Evagora's portrayal of Elnor. In a more episodic series with longer seasons, I could see him as a less sarcastic Q or Shran, a fan favorite who crosses paths with the mains occasionally on his crazy Qowat Milat adventures. Unfortunately, after "Absolute Candor" Elnor's been given virtually nothing to do. He just stands around making the occasional droll comment or having inconclusive filler fights. It makes Picard's answer to "why do you need me?" seem like a load of bull in retrospect.

Agreed, however, Elnor's story is just beginning, and, with Michael Chabon at the helm, I am confident that his story will flesh out brilliantly. Perhaps even a spin off of his own after season 2 of "Picard."

I like Elnor's character and hope they give him more to do in season 2.

Loved the set up (and potential) for the character, although by end his character arc (if he even had one) was the least well served and built on, by the season.

His whole diversion on the cube didn't serve his character arc at all. And didn't help what could have been a defining face off with Narek, which when it finally came fell completley flat.

I think his first season arc they really should have just bonded him to Picard and developed that specific relation and loyalty. Only very slowly opening to others.
Instead they bounced him around emotionally with over-dramatic loyalty moments first it's Picard, than it's Hugh, no it's Seven, no it's Raffi in the end, spreading him so thin, just made all his supposed character driven (search for purpose and role) moments, somewhat meaningless.
