EURO 2020 Thread!

This was a truly awful bit of news to wake up to. It could have been so much worse, though. Whether or not he plays again is entirely irrelevant; hopefully he'll be okay and nothing like this will happen again.

Yes, it could have been much worse. It looks as if his career is over, but he should be financially set, and his fitness will hopefully contribute towards his recovery.

Fingers crossed.

Indeed, football did not feel important yesterday. Thankfully, Eriksen is stable and I wish him a swift recovery. I was surprised that the match was finished last night - supposedly the players wanted it, but I can't imagine they were given too much in the way of choice.

England-Croatia kicks off today's matches in a rematch of the 2018 WC semi-finals. This will be the one group stage match for England where they likely won't control possession, so they need to show they've learned from what happened 3 years ago. The defence is worrying but hopefully their wealth of attacking talent can do some damage.

Very composed defensive performance from England, yielding no clear chances to Croatia. Sterling was perhaps the least in-form player in the squad heading into the game but he more than justified his selection. Phillips was outstanding throughout.

I expect some rotation for the Scotland match on Friday; I'd be surprised if Grealish doesn't start while one of Shaw or Chilwell will likely be in at LB. I think Trippier was played out of position solely for his potential set-piece contributions.

In all, a great way to start the tournament for England.

Phillips was easily MOTM though I have serious reservations about Trippier at LB going forwards especially when we have 2 really good LB's in the squad. Despite his goal Sterling under hit a lot of passes and wasted several good chances. I just feel there are superior technical players in that squad over Sterling like Sancho who would be fantastic on the wings with Foden.

I think we'll win 3-1 against Scotland.

Hungary in this group with Portugal, France and Germany feels like the nameless crewman who beams down to the alien planet with Kirk, Spock and Bones.

They will fight with the Germans for the 4th place in this group, but you'll never know. And Jogi's time is already over....

It was weird to see Italy playing positive, attractive football. If I hadn't already hitched my wagon to France I'd be rooting for them, after watching that performance.

I'm still sad that Chiellini's goal was disallowed. Any time Chargin' Chiello is successful I'm happy about that.

Southgate is rolling out an unchanged lineup except for the fullbacks; Shaw replaces Trippier and Reece James is in for Walker. James will get a lot of work; I expect him to be kept extremely busy with most of Scotland's attacks coming through Robertson and Tierney on the left flank.

Dreadful performance by England against a stout Scottish defence - and you can argue that Scotland had more dangerous chances.

Severely detrimental to England's confidence. They need a result against Czechia because 1st place is by no means assured.

In fact, "by no means assured" doesn't cover it - they need a win due to their lower goal difference.
