EURO 2008 - The Official Trek BBS Thread

The only good thing for Germany is that Turkey has 4 or more first string players on suspension for next game. But if Germany thinks that way, it'll be setting itself up for a loss...

What a tournament. What a tournament!

That was....wow. Turkey come back again!

If this wasn't just a quarter-final, I think this would go down as a more amazing finish than Champions League '99 and '05.

Shortest book in the world

How to defend a lead with a minute left by Croatia National football team.

Damn Croats. Why did you have to choke it away in the last 30 seconds?

WOAW!

*bows to the Space Turks*

These guys aren't human.

While I doubt they'll have a real shot at the cup, the Turks are just completely awesome. They've been lucky, but they've also been increadibly feisty - any other team would have given up after the Croatian goal.

So who do you guys like?

Whatever team happens to be playing Germany at any given time.

Except the countries where there are lots of immigrants here, which makes them disliked by right-wingers and xenophobes of all kinds. Especially the comments regarding Turkey's success in message boards/online newspapers/etc. were absolutely digusting.

I was starting to think I was the only non-Turk in Vienna loving the Turks in this tournament. I was pretty disappointed by hearing quite a few people that usually seem relatively open-minded giving off Strache-esque crap about the Turks earlier today. Turks celebrating their team = prelude to invasion.

(Which reminds me, I actually heard an announcement on the tram today - regarding how to best get to the nearest fan zones - which was in quite a few languages ... including Croatian, and Turkish. I wonder how certain individuals towards the right end of the political spectrum will take that.)

All the Turkish fans I encountered in town today seemed cheerful and energetic, but in no way scary. The only problematic fans I've encountered myself were a band of drunk Germans.
