EURO 2008 - The Official Trek BBS Thread

Last night was entirely dull. I felt I had been somehow tricked by the end of the 90. Italy could at least have tried to go forwards a little bit. The Spanish weren't much better.

I guess the semi-final between Spain and Russia is going to be the real final for the Euro...

Unfortunately they were better by just as much as they needed to win the match. :(

I guess I'll be rooting for Russia now, they really impressed me. :techman:

I agree. The game was a bore. I'm quite pissed we got out, but Spain at least tried to play, and they deserved victory. Kudos to Spain! :)

It is going to be a walk in the park for Germany, the first semi-final. Turkey has a tremendously high number of players that are either injured or suspended. There are talks that the third goalkeeper would have to play as an outfield player.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, and when the starting team is announced all of the sudden most of these injured players are in it. My guess is that most of the whining about the injured players is just a smoke screen to lull our team into a false sense of security.

I have serious doubts they would do such a thing.

Volkan Demirel - suspended, red card.
Emre Asik - suspended, yellow card accumulation.
Tuncay Sanli - suspended, yellow card accumulation.
Arda Turan - suspended, yellow card accumulation.
Nihat Kahveci - Injured, out of the tournament.
Emre Gungor - Injured, out of the tournament.
Servet Cetin - Inured, possibly out.
Tumer Metin - Injured, possibly out.
Emre Belozoglu - Back from injury during first game, possibly out but could make the game.

Why not? It would be a smart tactic. I'm not saying the aren't/weren't injured, but I'm sure in the end at least some of them will play. Frings has a broken rib and will most likely be on the German team, so I'm sure some of the injured turkish players will play as well.

Regardless. These guys have so much fighting spirit, I wouldn't put it past them to beat Germany.

A Turkey vs Russia final in the Euro2008 would just be too much fun; and the party in the streets after Turkey's last victory was phenomenal already, I can't imagine how crazy they'll go when Turkey makes it into the final. Türkiye! Türkiye! :)

They do have fighting spirit. But 9 men out of a 23 man squad is a tough go. That's 14 healthy players. I haven't looked at the Turkish team but I imagine their tactical or like for like substitution ability is severely limited if not altogether impossible. A lot of players doing their best out of position should be easy to exploit. There is some discussion, in fact, the third keeper could be used as a striker. That doesn't sound ideal.

You can read through this thread and see how many bad predictions I've made, but if the Germans don't brush Turkey aside with ease I will be very surprised.

Damn... the feed is down. Both of them actually; our local one plus the Austrian (ORF1).

EDIT: nevermind, ORF is back. ;)
