That really didn't make any sense. Even if it was a genetic trait he wouldn't have lost it by going back in time and they weren't processed by the machine or else they would've died when they came back.

Maybe that was part of the preparation they didn't get. Yeah I know still doesn't make a lot of sense.

It matters to me. At least not on the level I have been seeing. Im surprised that so many Star Trek fans are apparently ok with it but Star Wars fans lose it when something small like Han shoots second... ...

I doubt a writer of a fictional book series would change things from book 1 in book 3 and say....It always happened that way. Deal with it.

I doubt a writer of a fictional book series would change things from book 1 in book 3 and say....It always happened that way. Deal with it.

Fleming would kill Bond in one book and resurrect him in the next with no real explanation.

Fleming's initial intent was to kill Bond off, as he became tired of the character, but he was persuaded by friends and other factors to reconsider. The ambiguity of Bond's deaths in the novels has been a point of discussion among fans.

And David Morrell brought John Rambo back after killing him in First Blood, with a simple author's note to the effect that for the series to continue it was necessary to ignore the original ending.

“In my novel First Blood, Rambo died. In the films, he lives.”

This is all the attention David Morrell gives to the continuity problem of continuing a series of novels where the protagonist didn’t survive the first instalment.

Not a fair comparison at all. There is a huge difference between changing the original work and making changes down the line in future spinoff productions, whether it be for artistic or practical reasons.

Two examples big deal. And if Bond was killed so many times we now know why the movies keep recasting it. Every book series i have ever read keep tight continuity and if they didn't I would drop it like a hot potato. Bond get rebooted constantly on film. Star Trek was a continuing story once the films became popular. Not a reboot like every James bond book.

Star Trek needed a serious TRUE reboot. Not the shoehorning we have been treated to for the last 16 years. Either that or they should have given it a rest and start a new series set a few decades after the last TNG movie with an all new cast. Not continually rehasing old characters and ideas . We get enough of that from all the Superhero stuff and Bond.

It's a totally fair comparison. They are changing the original works constantly now with SNW as it's tool to do that. It also doesn't matter. TOS came first. At least Star Wars teeny tiny changes were approved by the ORIGINAL CREATOR...

What about it? Any really good book series are fairly straightforward and don't just start rewriting what they did on the previous book Unless it's a total reboot of the series.

Funny, I can still watch the original versions of TOS on my Blu-Rays. SNW hasn't changed a thing with the ability to do so.

I have to do a lot more work to watch Han not shoot first. And the later is only available to me in a questionable legal way if I want to watch it in any kind of decent quality.

Love the books, love the radio show, loved the television show but thought the movie was mid. But the point is that all four versions deliberately told the story differently, something that Douglas Adams made a point of doing.

Does Han shooting first bother me? Not really. It’s more the principle of the original version not being commercially available that I see as the problem. The original Star Wars (not A New Hope, with no special edition changes) was groundbreaking. It deserves a release.

Hey, much like the original Star Trek series has received. Or TMP. Because those things still exist on my shelf in Blu-Ray or 4K.
