ESS AACHEN, XCV-770: Full Deck Blueprints Project.

This is an old, old project of mine. It seems whenever I start a project it either dies half-way through or spirals out of control into some huge, complicated thing. Usually it does both several times, actually. In any case, some of you probably remember that I posted the external views for this thing a while back. Like...last summer.

And here they are again. What no one knew until now is that I also made a full set of deck blueprints and cutaways over the course of the following month or so. (This would be about August 2007). Then I sat on them, rather than showing anyone.

Why, you ask? Because I wanted to have a written-up history and tech-specs of some sort, and, well...art is fun and pretty easy for me. Writing a manual...not so much. (Research is, like, complicated!) So, after making these things and getting 95% finished over the course of a few weekends, I spent half a year writing up several paragraphs of jargon for the ship, shuttles, history, and all that other crap. Procrastination: Bad.

So. First a look at some oldies but goodies, quite a bit more cluttered with text-boxes and little diagram things than the last time I showed them: (follow thumbs to full-sized version)

And now for the “new” stuff:

The Cutaways.

Decks 1 & 2.

Deck 3.

Ok, I’ll stop there. The rest of the decks are coming soon. They’re done, I just need to upload, etc. There are a total of 11 sheets. So, in the meantime...questions/comments/suggestions are welcome.

_____________EDITED TO ADD_______________

And here’s the rest. Sheet 11 is most of the stuff I couldn’t put anywhere else, but still wanted to include for the sake of completeness.

Deck 5

Thanks, guys!

Strange...imageshack is being very cooperative all of a sudden...usually it has fits when I'm on dial-up.

Impressive work! Just Wow. Not at all how i would have designed earth's early vessels of exploration, but yours is a really believeable 22st century vessel based on the Akira-layout.

Hey, you ripped that off from "Enterprise." (running and ducking!)

Well, that's kinda the point, isn't it? :D I still say FJ ripped-off Star Trek! This is essentially 'my version', which is closer in size and detail to what I think a 22nd cent ship should be.

Thanks for the replies, everyone!

I like your take on the more primitive transporter. Have the system elements completely surround the subject instead of standing out in the open.

Ancient, I was definitely a fan of this design back when you first created it and I'm thrilled to see that you made deck plans and further literature for it. It's definitely a much more acceptable 'Enterprise' than the NX was. Good job!!

FanTAStic!

All the schematucs I've done of my kitbashes, I've never been brave enought to try full deck plans. I don't think I can come up with everything that has to go into it.

Thanks for the comments, everyone!

I think I'll post some of my bridge Pics later.

I made the cutaways first, then the decks. Then changed the cutaways as I went along to match the decks where there was something that worked better. It works for me anyway.

Doing that crew break-down was interesting. 150 people isn't as many as I originally thought. Breaking them into 5 divisions puts the average at 30 people per department. Though the redshirts (Who are wearing grey) are still the most numerous.

For the ship's symbol I went a little retro. It was either that design or a lightning bolt.
