ER - What did you think?

I used to really enjoy ER. Partly because it made revising a breeze. Seriously, I totally credit watching daily ER reruns for getting me through medical finals. Not even kidding; it really helped because the symptoms are barndoor stereotypical and you can play "spot diagnosis" and management planning and test yourself against the characters.

I stopped first-run watching somewhere around Romano vs Helicopter Part II. You know, you can easily buy gold-plated stethoscopes nowadays, and I'm sure I don't remember seeing them so easily available to buy before ER. Now that's a legacy. :D

When it first came out, it was like - WOW! The adrenalin rush, the sexy cast, the medical jargon, the camera work. There was really nothing like it on tv.

Like all long-running tv shows, it had to pass its best, but it continued to be worth tuning in for. Yes, Carter, Ross, Greene and Benton were an amazing cast, but Luka, Abbey, Morris, Pratt and Sam were also very watchable. And they always managed to open each season with a grabber. Not to mention guest stars like James Woods, Ray Liotta, Forest Whitaker, Steve Buscemi and the like.

Towards the end, there was perhaps too much of a tendency to have downer episodes. But Doug and Carol got a nice happy-ever-after (continued in their comeback ep) and it was great to see so many of the previous cast return for the last season. And ending with Greene's daughter joining the cast was a nice way to come full circle.

I think it will be remembered as one of THE great tv shows.

I really do think this is a show I would like to try and watch from the beginning. I might have to add it to the Netflix queue....

E.R. used to be must-see TV for me. I was there pretty much from the beginning (I may have missed the first episode or two) and stuck with the show for several seasons. I would say that the dramatic cast changes during season six started to turn me off the show. Ross had left the series and Carol would join him by the end of the season. Genie left early on, poor Lucy got killed (in a really dramatic way) half-way through the year. Lots of new faces began to walk the halls. As more and more original cast members left, my interest faded. By the time Mark Greene died, I was done with the show.

I used to really love ER... but then the show went down the tubes for a bit there...

I didn't mind some of the later episodes, but I wasn't nearly as much of a fan of the show as I was back in it's heyday.

I loved the show from the beginning, but I lost interest around 1997. No real reason, I just kind of stopped watching it. I tuned in every once in a while, but it never really grabbed my attention.

I find it interesting that so many disliked the new cast members in the middle of the series. I actually preferred them over the original cast. I will watch the earliest episodes but they don't have the same excitement and energy that I felt in later seasons. I know that I'm in the minority on that though.
