Episodes you refuse to watch

Rick, et al, have gone on record as saying that they just wanted to wrap up -ENTERPRISE- with an episode they could have some "fun" with. There was no real rhyme or reason to it, but Marina and Frakes were certainly reliable, as guest stars. Left to play their TNG characters, there wasn't any "work" involved.

Yes, I don't really object to their presence on principle, they just happened to be part of a really sucky episode.

I remember when Q brought in Riker for a cameo in VOY, to testify, or some such about some other Q who affected his life some way, Janeway just about dropped an egg, she was so smitten with Riker, instantly. As absurd as the whole thing was, it was worth it just to see her swooning over him, it was kind of "cute," actually.

But Jonathan Frakes' involvement could've been so much more meaningful and impactful and well-thought out, but it always comes back to these shitty-assed writers who deliver episodes like this, in part, because they're under "pressure," but mostly because they're no-talent hacks who just got lucky. TATV, interestingly enough, didn't suffer from any of that, it was just a whimsical episode, as noted. And I wouldn't try to twist anyone's arm into agreeing with me that it's not as bad as people say, or to enjoy it, as much as I. Its shortcomings are apparent.

Still in all, there's quite a bit of that in STAR TREK. Even a Classic like "City on the Edge of Forever" has to be "forgiven" to a certain extent, in order to be "believable." Or "The Voyage Home," with the incredible assertion that the power of the Humback Whale's song is such that it can penetrate lightyears at warp speed, to chat up probes from another Galaxy. These cetaceans are not only Man's equal ... they are his superior! And this movie was so handsomely rewarded that Leonard Nimoy could never stop bragging about it. But that's STAR TREK for you ...

"A Night in Sickbay." My respect for Archer took a serious hit in that one. My dog has a right to go down to that planet. My dog got sick because I took him down to that planet. Whine, whine, whine. Take a chainsaw to this episode already. Give me Kirk's speech about "risk" in "Return to Tomorrow" any day over this!

I skip the third season's Exile, it's just so boring. I can't bring myself to skip these are the voyages, flawed as it is it was nice to see Riker and Troy back.

I don't skip episodes on principle, but I'm sorely tempted to skip TATV. The only thing that makes me watch it again is the fact that it is the last episode of Trek that's been made so far.

I think the only episode I liked was the one where T'Pol's grandma goes to earth.
I would've liked to see an episode where old Mestral showed up. Or they discover he helped Cochrane with his warp equations and cover the whole thing up!

Precious Cargo.
:p

But props to you for giving us that scene with "Administrator T'Pol" scaring the bejeebus out of that weaselly guy while Archer was bowing and scraping to her - that was gold! My favorite scene of the episode.

But to get back on topic... TATV still wins the prize for making me reach for the remote to change channels.

Thanks! That scene was inspired by a scene in the book "Clear and Present Danger" that both Chris Black and I read. Chris and I discussed that we'd both read the book many years ago and loved that scene, where two members of the coast guard convince drug dealers that they can put them on trial. I believe chris actually wrote the final version of that scene during the production rewrite.

I could only watch TATV once. Not looking forward to seeing it again (though I hate skipping, so I'll probably do it for completion anyway). I never bothered watching "Extinction" again after the initial airing.

Harbinger and anything action-centric was boring. Basically, starting with Season 3 and the whole Xindi nonsense the show got derailed from when it was Star Trek at its greatest - Seasons 1 and 2.

I think the only ones that I actively refuse to watch are TaTV, A Night in Sickbay, and the one where Trip has to explain how poop works.

I didn't see that much action in Harbinger.

The episode with the poop question in Breaking the Ice. Some of the other things that happen are that the crew meet a rude Vulcan captain and T'Pol gets an encrypted letter about her upcoming marriage. This is considered one of the top season 1 episodes for most people. What don't you like about it?

Honestly, it's more that I walk away from the never ending poop joke and forget to come back to see what else the episode offers.

Based on your sensitivity to bodily functions, I am guessing you are American? Seems to be a cultural phobia.

It's not so much a sensitivity to them as I just found the gag lame and it went on far far to long. Yes I am an American, but in this case it isn't so much a prudishness about the subject. It was just the writers missed the point of the joke. The funny or amusing part was the kids asking such an obvious question and Trip being put on the spot. We didn't need 5 minutes of Star Trek technobabble on "where poop goes". The bit had already paid off. And yeah I know I am being nitpicky. It's just a scene that always annoyed me. It isn't so much an episode that I actively avoid as one that I only ever watched fully once as I tend to wander away from it.
