Episodes that are considered "good" that you actually dislike

Sup?

Honestly, most of TNG doesn't hold up very well for me, outside of a few classic episodes like "Measure of a Man," "Best of Both Worlds," "Yesterday's Enterprise," and "Sarek."
I think that's true for most of the franchise, really.

Aside from the fact I paid for them and it would be wasteful, I could easily audit and reduce my entire Star Trek collection to under 50 episodes. Probably even less than that. Especially given that if I really wanted to watch an episode I didn't have, I could easily find them on Netflix/Amazon/CBSAA.

But the truth is, of the 750 or whatever total episodes there are now, I bet I haven't watched close to 500 in 10-15 years. And that's only because I watch all of TOS and ENT (which I hadn't seen since its first run) in 2016.

But I would agree that of all of them, TNG is the hardest to get back into. Funny because it's the show where I've probably seen the average episode more than any other series. From about the time I was 10 all the way through high school, TNG was on seven nights a week. And I watched every night for eight or nine straight years. Never missed a one. But now I can hardly be bothered.

I so agree. When I am channel hoping if TOS is on I stop and watch for nostalgia sake, when TNG is on I keep hopping unless its an episode I really want to see again. I am doing an in universe order rewatch of the entire franchise (I'm redoing DISC at the moment having started with ENT) and its going to be torture to do TNG and VOY lol

Hmmm... That would be an interesting exercise. I might want to try that over in its own thread: "Boil Trek down to 50 episodes or less." :)

Voyager 'Blink of the Eye'.

Edit:

Shit, wrong thread. This was meant to go into the bad episodes I think are good.

The Borg-centric episodes kind of disappoint me for some weird reason. The tension feels hyped up and overrated, and I'm not much of a fan. Although I never openly really dislike a Borg episode, they are just like always a letter grade 'C' to me. It would be more interesting if the Borg displayed more human qualities but were also Picard's enemies, more like another section of the Federation that was too strict and authoritarian. That were arrogant enough to consider themselves the 'real' federation and Picard an imposter. Or something more like that.

I think "Hollow Pursuits" is a little overrated, but I don't dislike it.

It's just a person who has trouble fitting in bringing something to the table in a work setting. Like Guinan, the thought of fitting in repels me. And the episode feels way too much like The Work Environment and not enough like Serving On A Starship. I can't stand working at a "normal" job or having a boss. That's why I'm a Contractor.

On another note: I'm with Troi when she told Barclay's holo-projection of her to "muzzle it".

I'm not sure if it really counts as a "good" episode, but: ENT's "In a mirror Darkly, part 1".
Part 2 is the one where they take over the TOS connie to bring down any resistance in the MU. I wouldn't even call part 2 a "good" episode, but it's just so. much. fun. Seeing all tose 60s sets and starship again - and they play it completely straight. It's a very schlock-y episode. But it has so much fun and admiration for the original Trek, I just have to love it.

But part 1? There is really nothing in there. It's just MU-universe infighting, which is the most boring aspect the MU has to offer. The last actually "good" MU episode was IMO the original, TOS "Mirror, Mirror". Everything else since then has been bad schlock. DS9 at least tried an interesting new angle to it, even if they failed, and DIS' MU part is just completely utter schlock.

"In a mirror Darkly, part 1" has a great final 5 minutes, exactly when they find the original Defiant and battle the Tholians. But everything before that is just ridiculous MU infighting, boring at best, utterly offensive at worst, and there is absolutely no connection to our main universe heroes at all. And I have absolutely no reason to care who wins this fight between badguys whatsoever. Hoshi winning in the end was a neat little twist. But this stuff really didn't deserve to be a two-parter. It should have been a single episode. Instead they put all the meat in the second part, and the first is IMO just padding with a collection of the worst stuff the MU has to offer in the wider Trek universe.

Meh. Most of season 2 can go too. And there are four or five from season 1 that aren't really mandatory either. All in you're looking about 30 from TOS, leaving three or four for each of the other series which is probably enough.

 I ended up with 22 TOS episodes, 17 TNG episodes (more than I was expecting, honestly), 9 DS9 eps, and 3 from ENT. Not quite what I was expecting, but I was trying to be as fair as possible. :)

Mods: Apologies for the thread drift, if anyone wishes to discuss this "Top 50" topic further, go to this thread.
