In Brothers, the danger on him taking over the Enterprise was because that the ship needed to get a young boy the sick bay of a Starbase, not because of any system upgrades.

Yes, but in those situations he's not an acting captain. He's in command of the bridge, but not senior commanding officer aboard, much like The Hunted has him in command during Danar's escape, while Picard & Riker are planetside. There may be more examples of that, but I'm struggling to recall times both Riker & Picard are both off ship
I think Redemption & Gambit are the only examples of him in the role of captain, & honestly I always felt he accorded himself better than even Riker, who whenever thrust into the role, in Picard's absence, was a royal grump about it lol
Unilateral command of an away mission was pretty rare for him as well. He's always with someone, Tam Lebrun, Kyla Marr, etc..
Well, she's in command of the Pasteur in the finale but I think that's all we see

These are times when Picard and Riker are either off the ship or incapacitated. Data is in command because neither are available due to illness ("Angel One"), kidnapping ("The High Ground", "Gambit" two-parter), being incapacitated ("Night Terrors", "Clues"), diplomatic mission ("The Hunted", "The Mind's Eye", "Tapestry"), or other reason.
He has the bridge when both or either of them are still aboard the ship, which has happened many times.
I just hadn't realized it was that frequent.
Setting aside "You have the bridge" situations, so situations where somebody has command and can't be simply relieved by a more senior/competent person stepping in a turbolift:

Crusher in Descent
La Forge was in a command, notably in Arsenal of Freedom (and in Picard season 3)
Worf was in Conundrum, which may or may not count as they had memory loss. In The Emmisary Picard and Riker were in the next room so wouldn't count in my view.
Troi was arguably in Disaster, although Data, Riker and Picard were able to issue orders, they couldn't communicate and thus be in command.

Were these the only times we saw LaForge legitimately in command? Loved him being in command of the Ent-D in the series finale (of Picard).
"The Emissary" was just to fake out the Klingons, so I dunno if this counted. He did command the Enterprise-E after Picard, even if that's off screen.
"Disaster" definitely counts, because for a large part of the episode, the bridge crew didn't know who was alive, dead, out of contact, so Troi was defacto commander until the status changed.
