Spoilers Episode Three Sneak Peek

I know it's not a popular opinion, but I agree with what you've said elsewhere regarding DSC/SNW. They are a reboot in everything but name.

(I always get a bit nervous when you quote me because you're a bit scary and I think you're going to say something mean... )

You don’t ever have to be scared of me. I’m completely non-threatening. And you and I have seen eye-to-eye on too many things that even if you posted something I didn’t agree with, I wouldn’t act like a dick.

I think it’s the combo of you being named after a scary Cardassian with the face of Unicron.

Your public image needs work…

SNW can be classified as a "visual reboot" or a "soft reboot."

I always think of TMP as the first great visual reboot… undone by the likes of Relics/Trials and Tribbleatjons/ENT Mirror stuff.

SNW, I enjoy it as it is. Actually SNW hews much closer to TOS than TMP (or subsequent movies) ever did.

It helps that this season has been superlative so far.

Honestly i think more people are scared of @cooleddie74 :D

Brian Brophy eats Cooleddie for breakfast. And Robau gets the leftovers.

Yeah, I realy do need to change my avatar...but my real face is so much less frightening...

Most footage of Kirk and La'an in a Toronto looking city in the trailers is probably from this episode.
Any shots of Kirk with captain stripes and a non-delta badge.

That looks like the Bond Place / Dundas Square area. So even more locations to visit on my next trip as well as the Vulcan Science Academy and Kaminar.
Though I do find the "go back in time and visit long-lifespan friend who was alive in that time via a doorway in an alley of a 21st century city" rather a bit too close to the Guinan storyline in PIC s.2

Both TNG and DS9 did a good job of revisiting the TOS while staying respectful to the source material. That's partially why those two episodes are so fondly remembered. Even Enterprise was able to make a cool looking ship and bridge that didn't look like it was more advanced than TOS. However once the Kelvin movies and Discovery came out, that ship pretty much sailed.
The DS9 Mirror Universe episodes were awful. As for TNG respecting TOS, at least they didn't character assassinate Spock in the same way they made Scotty a daughtering old fool for 3/4 of the episode he appeared in. Having Scotty effectively say he can't look at current technical manuals is so against his character in TOS as he often relaxed by reading it technical manuals to the point that Kirk made him put them down and go on Shore leave.

I thought the first mirror universe episode was really good. But my comment had to do with the Tribbles episode which did a great job of inserting DS9 crew with the old crew.

Did you watch the movies? Scotty acted exactly like he did from the previous time we'd seen him

He was flashed forward 75 years. He would have to do a lot more than read some technical manuels. He said "I'm not 18. I don't want to start off like a raw cadet." Which at his advanced age is totally understandable.

This is also the last time I'm commenting on the cannon as that wasn't the original purpose of this thread. Let's all just agree to disagree and move on.

Except they're not going back in time to meet a friend in this episode.
Are you sure about that? The trailer shows someone handing Laan a device before he dies and then a time shift like in Yesterday';s Enterpise happens. A previous trailer shows Kirk having difficulty with a 20th century style service door. They clearly when back in time for something or someone.

Indeed. It's frustrating the way things are spun to make Scotty look less and less effective, both in TNG and the films.

Yes, to fix whatever time travel dude messed up, since he was shot with a bullet and apparently can't be revived.

And unfortunately, one reason why Trek got stagnant on TV before the 2009 movie was because the desire to shoehorn everything into canon got it caught in a creative rut, as well as turning off people who wanted to tune in and see what the show was about.
ENT S4, the most shoehorny one, was also very creative

For those of you who want it to look exactly like TOS, how would you go about that? Would you want the same materials used in building the sets? The same lighting? The same cameras, the same special effects? The same resolution on your tv? Because to have it look the same you would have to have all those things and probably many that I am not even aware of.
Has anyone ever said that?

Except they're not going back in time to meet a friend in this episode.
