Episode of the Week: 11001001

But that's never even hinted at. I think we are meant to believe that they are just attracted to her.

Is that such a bad thing? She looks, sounds, smells, feels, and acts like a real woman. That's far beyond what a holodeck can normally provide. And, she's presumably "played" by a real person (I suspect Zero Zero). Combining her assumed appearance and the fact that she was effectively sentient for that reason, it would be odd if Riker wasn't attracted to her.

I'm not saying it's bad for Riker or Picard or anybody on this show to be attracted to somebody. I just found the way Riker initially selected her a bit creepy. Yes, everybody has the right to their fantasies, but do we really have to watch him picking out porn? That was my problem, if they had just confronted him with Minuet from the start, I would be less harsh on the atmosphere.
Or say Minuet is in the initial audience as he plays, and flirts with him using her eyes and stuff and that makes Riker switch to a more intimate setting to her. That would have been better in my opinion.

One thing to consider is, which I think was the whole point of the scene, the narrowing of parameters was increasing in quality, and illustrated the improvements of what the Bynars were doing.

Riker originally wanting a one-woman audience didn't bother me, but that would have been an interesting alternative way for the program to unfold.
