Some fans think that certain franchises belong to them (mostly white men with a very narrow and misguided view on other kinds of people) and only them. They want to force out everyone else, even though those other fans have always been there. There have always been fans who weren’t white, female fans, and LGBTQ fans. Now those franchises are letting those fans see themselves on screen for the first time and the toxic fans aren’t happy. Fuck them, we were always here and we aren’t leaving. Neither are the white guys who aren’t threatened by people of color, women, LGBTQ people, or anyone else who is different and making them look bad. They need to either get over it or leave because they are the ones who aren’t welcome.I was initially wary of ROS due to the return of a certain old foe - the sequel trilogy has been about the journey of the new characters, and it's their story - but I am becoming more and more intrigued with each passing day as to where this can go.
On toxic fans, I have unfortunately had more than my fair share of run-ins with them, both with Star Wars and Star Trek. Some fans unfortunately think they can dictate who qualifies as fans, based on their own fan-interpretations and narratives.
