Episode IX Speculation and Discussion

My point is that just because JJ Abrams once lied about Cumberbatch being Kahn, it doesn't mean that he, Rian, or anyone else was lying in regards to whether or not Rian used The Last Jedi to ignore or undo anything that JJ set up in The Force Awakens.

Khan!

And if a person has lied once to the public, you can't dismiss the possibility they might do it again if it is important to them.

I have no stakes in this horse race. At the end of the day, I'm looking for an entertaining movie. If Rey is a Skywalker/Solo, the world isn't going to stop spinning no matter how much nerd rage is released into the atmosphere. Same goes for if she is an orphan. Or if she's the clone of Kylo Ren or Emperor Palpatine. God knows my bills are still going to be due when their due following the release of Episode IX.

It is fun to sit and bullshit, but the fun evaporates when folks start acting like their thoughts on something that we haven't seen are the only ones that matter.

But, I'm not going to pretend like we've been misled either.

We don't know if we've been misled or not because none of us have seen the final product. We do know a man is at the helm who is known to have misled audiences in the past. Doesn't mean he will this time. Just that one shouldn't completely dismiss the possibility.

I don't dismiss it. I'm betting against it, and tired of being told I should expect people are going to lie to me. It's tiresome.

Sorry that it sounds nippy. It's more general fatigue at the attitude expressed towards Hollywood producers.

I think they make more than enough money that they can take a bit of attitude from fans when they aren't happy. Though they shouldn't be subjected to anything more than people's opinions of their product.

Yes, they can take it. That doesn't mean it has to be the rule.

At the end of the day it’s just a movie. Rey can be a Skywalker, a Solo, a Kenobi, a Palpatine or a nobody. JJ can be telling the truth or lying. I’ll still see the movie and I truly hope I’ll enjoy it. Just like I have the past ten Star Wars films to varying degrees.

Well..there's also Lost...

Of which Abrams had little to do with the series after the pilot. Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cruse ran the show. He co-wrote and directed the pilot and co-wrote the teleplay for the third season premiere. Other than co-writing one of the short webisodes (which was a deleted scene of previously mentioned third season premiere), that’s about it.

Christopher has repeatedly cautioned you in the past against bringing up the "Kahn isn't in into Darkness" thing - which JJ admitted was a mistake - as justification for dismissing anything and everything that filmmakers or actors say about the projects they're involved in as being lies.

To paraphrase him, not everyone is lying because this one person lied once-upon-a-time.

"cautioned"?

"cautioned"?

There’s probably geek police Miranda rights by this point.
Presumably based on the words of Nahk, Who took it in that film The revenge of Nahk. I think it was was Star Wars 2: The Reveng of Nahk, where they reveal Harry Potter has son who turns out to be Molly Spacehunter or something. It was a big thing I am sure...

So I just found out what Miranda Rights are, who says posting here is a waste of time?

People can say stupid things online all they want, but they have to accept that others can and will call their comments out for being stupid.

Did you really mean that Christopher cautioned BillJ? Christopher's not a moderator.

Christopher doesn't have to be a moderator in order to advise (or caution) people against trying to use the "Kahn isn't in Until Darkness" thing as "proof" that audiences are being fed lies when it comes to the Sequel Trilogy (or any other property, for that matter).
