Episode IX Speculation and Discussion

The trailer did nothing for me...Although I did think the Emperor Palatine's Laugh at the end was great. So there is hope.
I am being positive on here, but I am in the same boat. The laugh did save the trailer though, but it doesn't negate the awful flip.

And where is Rose?

I didn't love TLJ, but I did really enjoy it. TFA, I can watch that anytime!

TLJ definitely had flaws, and I don't like it quite as much as I like TFA, but its one of those movies I liked a lot to begin with and grows on me even more over time.

Same here. It slowed down a lot during the (forgot the planet's name to lazy to google) casino scenes. And I didn't care much for the Rose character. But I really enjoyed this take on Luke. It makes sense to me he ended up where he did.

Teaser trailer could been formatted a bit differently than “TFA”. You could tell JJ was back.

I think the title could mean Rey starts a new movement named after Skywalker

The order of Skywalker

Well I figured it all out. Rey is a clone of Luke, made from his chopped off hand. She was created by Palpatine as a backup, in case Luke doesn't turn. However before she was really developed, she was taken by a rogue space pirate named Lando and was grown in a tube by him and the Millenium Flacon's onboard computer. As we know, fetuses all start female before developing the male chromosome, and since Lando didn't know who she was a clone of, he kept her as a female. Eventually financial difficulties due to gambling losses made him leave her on Jakku. Now, in order to stop the reincarnated evil emperor Palpatine, Luke's essence must be allowed back into the land of the living, but he needs a host with an adequate midochlorian count. Only Rey qualifies (because she is actually him). Unfortunately for the transfer to be complete, a sacrifice is needed, so Rey pretends to fall in love with Kylo only to betray him, knowing that this will lead to him cutting off her hand. This enables the return of Luke, and the Rise of the Skywalker.

I don't understand why you always choose to take corporate spin as fact, and not the raw original reactions. You choose to do this every. single. time. it's like you don't understand how damage control works!

How, exactly, is a reasoned in-context analysis of what Abrams has actually said "corporate spin", particularly when it comes from someone who is not actually connected to Lucasfilm in any way?

What a great teaser trailer. I was watching the panel live on youtube, and it did a great job of making me even more hyped for Episode IX (and I've watched the trailer a few times since then). This is going to be great.

I was never bothered by the similarities between ANH and TFA. TFA needed to prove that good SW movies could still be made in a post-Prequel world, and then the series moved on from there. I loved TFA, I loved TLJ, and I'm sure I'll love Episode IX.

You know, as a guy who can't stand JJ Abrams' first Star Trek film and considers Star Trek Into darkness to be "so bad its entertaining" as opposed to being an actually good movie, I have no problems with his Star Wars stuff. I loved TFA, and was hyped for it right from the first trailer, and for me I'm sure I'll really enjoy Episode IX, especially based on how hyped this trailer makes me.

Who are you and what have you done with the real kirk55555??

Some stats about the broader Saga that I find quite fascinating in the wake of what we learned about Episode IX/TROS:
1) 8 of the 9 Saga films have the word "the" somewhere in their titles
2) 5 of the 9 Saga film titles begin with a capitalized version of that word, meaning that they have a T in their official abbreviations
3) 5 of the Saga films have 4-letter abbreviations and 4 of them have 3-letter abbreviations
4) With Ian McDiarmid's return in TROS, Palpatine will have either been mentioned or seen in all 9 of the Saga films in some form or fashion

Well, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Can't wait for the film. I am truly curious to see what Abrams does with this film and the story as a whole. All of the actors look great, and Rey is sharp and ferocious looking. Hope Rose and other Resistance members are back.

I mean, I was already going to see the film but this did a good job at that whole teasing thing.

(forgot the planet's name to lazy to google)

Actually, the film never bothered to tell us the name of the planet, I guess they expected us to look it up on the internet or read a book or something. This follows in a long tradition of other SW films having done the same thing, including Rogue One, TFA, ROTS and even ANH.

MAZ: Oh yes, he can. You will find him with a red ploom flower on his lapel... rolling on a high stakes table... in the casino... on Canto Bight. POE: Canto Bight? - No, no. That's... Maz... Is there any way we can take care of this ourselves? MAZ: I'm sorry, kiddo. This is rarified cracking.

I’ve noticed that a lot of the sequel trilogy is based on some early ideas for the original trilogy. One of the ideas for Return of the Jedi was for during Luke’s final battle with the Emperor was that Yoda and Obi-Wan would appear and help, eventually Obi-Wan would return to a physical form and help finish the fight.

I wonder if that’s the plan for Luke.
