if you don't like the story why invest any more energy in to it?
That, I believe, boils this down to the base for most of us who aren't on FSM's side in this continued debate.

Right now, my only real concern is if they stick the landing. Wrapping up the trilogy in a satisfying fashion. For all the good and bad one can find in various storytelling, if you fuck up the landing, you pretty much fuck up the whole story.
Yeah, I get that. But, one of the few filmmakers I actually have confidence in is Abrams. So, I am extremely hopeful and excited to see it.Right now, my only real concern is if they stick the landing. Wrapping up the trilogy in a satisfying fashion. And, again, I survived the prequel trilogy, the constant Jar Jar hate and Ewok burning in effigy. I can handle disappointment.
It is what it is.So can I. I watched the Red Angel arc crash and burn after a promising start, and am still a Star Trek fan. But stumbling down the stretch can leave one smarting.

I did just get Disco season 2 for my birthday. I am going to be rewatching soon and see where it lies for me.
I have to say, I can't imagine ever wanting to watch either part of "Such Sweet Sorrow" ever again.![]()
I agree. The shakes and shimmies that have emanated from the SW franchise from the prequels until now have made me a bit gun-shy. I'm nervous, for the first time I can recall, that I might not like this one.....Right now, my only real concern is if they stick the landing. Wrapping up the trilogy in a satisfying fashion. At this point I'm pretty sure Palpatine knew about Snoke, the question for me is just how involved he was in Palpatine's planning.I'm actually going to stop here for a second because it's the first time in a while you've said anything which seemed vaguely sensible.
Supposing we need a backstory for Snoke, his powers and apparent ability to go unnoticed by Palpatine what makes you think that isn't part and parcel of the next movie? We've already had Palpatine teasered in a trailer and we are well aware that strong force users can hide in the force so that opens up at least two broad sets of answers.
1) Palpatine didn't know precisely because Snoke was so powerful and could hide, much as he hid from Yoda and Yoda, in turn, hid from him. Or, Palpatine didn't know because he was in some sense from outside the known setting.
2) Palpatine did, in fact, know and simply didn't present that information to us. Snoke could very easily be one of his apprentices (he had a thing for keeping several in play oblivious to each other), someone to whom Palpatine was apprenticed (Plagueis?), a Jedi who survived the purge and turned to the dark side, a figure previously only seen in the EU, or even someone we already know twisted by events in the interim (Mace Windu?)
That is fairly plausible sounding to me.Rumors suggest...
...that Snoke was a clone created by Palpatine and that Kylo Ren finds discarded versions on his way to find the Dark Lord. That, unsurprisingly, suggests that Palpatine was behind the First Order the entire time.

I didn't realize just how drastically all three movies in the PT changed as they went on until fairly recently. I had assumed Lucas had a pretty clear outline from the start, but all of them actually started out pretty different from what they ended up being.Just like Lucas was making it up as he went along. That is kinda how filmmaking works. You try to have a general outline, but things along the way cause changes to be made.

Oh, I loved it when it aired. But we'll see if it survives a rewatch.
Exactly. One need only look at Leia being Luke's sister to realized that some things are not as well planned out as we might think.Which just goes to show you the creative process. Any creator who suggests that they have every story beat laid out ahead of time is lying. Perhaps there’s a loose outline but the details all change. For instance, for quite some time in the development of ESB and ROTJ, there was a sister for Luke. But it wasn’t confirmed to be Leia until production commenced on Episode VI. The sister was supposed to come from another part of the Galaxy, going on the same journey Luke did while Leia was supposed to become isolated and “Queen of the universe.”

It is an excellent book and it definitely illustrates how much we take for granted after the movies were released. So much was just improvised. Not only Luke/Leia but Darth Vader himself. It was not always planned that Anakin was Vader. That’s why I recommend the book The Secret History of Star Wars. You can see in some honest depth how much and at the same time the saga just was not preplanned. Very much worth a read if you’re interested in such things.
I just saw some deleted scenes from ESB where Luke/Leia kiss more.....really glad they cut it considering.
I believe the original plan was for the sister to not come into play until the sequel trilogy, but then once they decided to tie things up (for the time) in ROTJ they just rushed and made her Leia.Which just goes to show you the creative process.
