I think it's a fair criticism--at least until we know more. Maybe DSC S2 and PIC S1 are sharing some themes intentionally. Or maybe it's a coincidence.

Really good character work once again this week, but they're going to have a hell of an uphill battle to convince me that whatever awful mystery surrounds the synths will be worth all this buildup. Especially now that we know it involves Generic Apocalyptic Imagery™.

I hope so. If the end-game shows Seven re-assimilated back into the Collective as part of her redemption arc, it's a quite dark fate for her character (and for the series as well) .

I'm afraid the newcomers will find it all pretty meaningless and will feel the story came to a complete halt and is now dead in the water. The TNG fans next to them will cry and scream and be so very touched. Must be odd at watching parties XD
