Enterprise reveal... what did you think?

I liked it, it was simple, quick and even the music was subtle, wasnt too over powering or fanwanky. I liked it, didnt make too big a deal out of it.

Quicker than i first expected. It was like:

'Oooh, were in a shuttle, cruising to our assignment. ooooh, a ship then...
BAMMM!!! Hi, im the new Enterprise.

I didn't like it. The nuEnterprise looked great in most shots, but not that one.

I also loved the shot of her lifting out of the clouds of Titan...that was beautiful.

One of my favourites also. :techman:

I loved that scene at Titan, thought it was glorious and perfectly done.

And the flyby and voiceover was great, didnt expect that at all. It was almost a carbon copy of TWOK closing epilogue. Wee see the registry and the lines and curves... Brilliant and beautiful and at that point did it look like the TOS Enterprise.

As a side note, i have all the theatre posters, and the one with the Enterprise being attacked, it has flames and scars etc, that poster is great, it looks like the Enterprise, but then its a view from the top of the saucer, so most of the discrepencies arent seen. Great posters, shame they were not in our theatres over here, i had get them imported. :p

In retrospect, seeing the ship in motion as we often did was much, much MUCH better than she is in stills. Anyone with me?

I really wish they HAD spent more time letting us see the ship, because everything moved so fast, it's like you've got to buy a model or toy to actually find out what the ship really looks like.

Hmmm...

There may have been a reason for the limited glimpses....they ain't stupid.

There were several instances where you had a clear view of the Big E.

I don't think you were paying much attention. :wtf:

Stop being rude to other forum members.

I said the movie moved too fast to get a good look.

And it did.

I didn't say I wasn't paying attention.

I said I wanted more.

Mind your manners.

It's not rude to point out that you're dead wrong.

In any case, I fail to see why this required a reply AND a PM with the same content.

Take a pill already.

I actually thought it was a bit overboard, clearly aimed at Trekkies and no one else. I was with a bunch of friends who were far from Trek fans so I found myself in their perspective for a lot of the movie and at this moment it felt overblown.

The moment I bonded with the ship was when it rose out of Saturn's rings.

That said, the ship is still my least favorite thing about my new favorite movie.

I whispered an awed "Oh, that is magnificent" under my breath when it was revealed.

I loved it. As much as I adore TMP, the introduction of the refitted movie 1701 took too damn long...even with the awesome Goldsmith music accompanying that travel pod sequence. This one was just the right length and showed all the best details.

It was a well done beauty shot that shows how far ILM has come.

I almost had a tear running down my face from all the awesomeness.

The reveal was good but I got more goosebumps when the ship came out all guns blazing as Sock was about to crash into the Narada. Even more goosebumps in the closing scene with Nimoy's voice-over
agreed and also when it lifted out of the clouds and it's SPock not Sock:p I thought it was cool when the shuttle moved and we saw the red stripes and delta shield.

This could be it. It's one of the few shots where we see the Enteprise at rest in any detail, with a static (or nearly so) camera too. Also it's simply an unflattering angle.

For all my early issues and anger over the Enterprise redesign...I have to say I now love that thing. Even if I'd still make some things look radically different and more TOS-like(mainly the engine room on the ship...that place looks too much like a sewage treatment facility).

I thought ever moment with the Enterprise was flawless. The reveal damn near brought me to tears, and I had the biggest grin on my face. Looking at her now, I see none of the problems that once stood out to me. That first shot is beautiful, the music perfect, and the pace energetic.

The shots of her dodging debris over Vulcan gave us some great side views, and she definitely has the silhouette down pat. Absolutely gorgeous ship. Better than the TOS Enterprise (she was spectacular in her time, but not right for this film), and she may actually become my favorite design, mainly because she has such a striking resemblance to the Refit Connie, with some sleeker, Ent-E lines to her as well.

I just sat there with my jaw dropped. First time seeing her on the big screen and by Gods it's beautiful. Then I just sat there grinning at how great it looked.

I liked it, especially the dialogue leading up to it.

McCoy: Jim, you gotta see this.
Kirk: I may throw up on you.

Yeah, I loved that, because they could have gone with some heavy handed "Kirk sees the ship, and it's love at first sight" nonsense. It felt real, knowing what we know, like Bones will be joking with Kirk years from now:

Kirk: "I love this ship."

Bones: "Well you've come a long way. When you first saw her, you almost threw up."

Which is also, coincidentally, how my opinion of it has evolved. ;)

I kinda have to agree. I've really grown to LOVE the new design overall, and in a straight-on profile view I think the design works beautifully. But somehow... that particular angle just doesn't work for me.

It's not a big deal though. I think the Ent-D is an awesome design too, and that one doesn't work from every angle either.

You know, it's so hard not to show off when you're proud of something; when you've designed something beautiful. And boy, did TMP show off the Enterprise.

TMP only spent ALL THAT TIME on the Enterprise reveal because of the amount of money they sank into the effects. There was no way all that $$$ was going on the cutting room floor.

I really liked the reveal. I loved the angles and the few short fly-bys that they did, and the music was incredible. Enterprising Young Men is by-far my most listened to music from the movie. They hit it spot on. With that said, my favorite shot of the Enterprise is still seeing it rise up out of Titan. Oh. My. God.

It was bigger then I thought it would be. Very nice, and a very beautiful ship. Of course the bridge was even a bigger shock to me. Really cool ship.
