ENTERPRISE on Blu-Ray OFFICIAL Discussion Thread

Re: The bird is out: ENTERPRISE on blu-ray

The new trailer is fantastic, even better than the excellent STNG bluray trailers. This series is by far the best LOOKING series, and the higher resolution will show it, can't wait.

While not my favorite, DS9 will likely take the crown of "best looking" series if it gets the same HD facelift as TNG.

Re: The bird is out: ENTERPRISE on blu-ray

^Agreed. I think the nature of DS9's cinematography is the most interesting and beautiful to look at of the bunch. I can't wait for it to be on Blu.

I'd personally put ENT down near the bottom of the list.

I think from space FX, to CGI landscapes, to the quality of the sets designed from the outset for HD, Enterprise deserves the prize. It also was nominated for the most Emmys of any ST series for FX receiving THREE in season 2 alone.

Re: The bird is out: ENTERPRISE on blu-ray

CGI ship model looks crappy.

The 1080p trailer belies that supposition.I've never seen the already excellent FX look better. Some of them looked almost cinema quality.

It also was nominated for the most Emmys of any ST series for FX receiving THREE in season 2 alone. It was nominated for 4 VES Awards and won 2.

NX-01 looks real shitty in some shots, the level of detail is poor, probably because it was rendered at 720p and upscaled.

Have you seen the CGI Enterprise D from TNG blu-ray, or 1701 from TOS remastered? These look infinitely better.

Re: The bird is out: ENTERPRISE on blu-ray

CGI is only as good as the technology you can afford to create it; at least with models they were made by the best people in the business.

Re: The bird is out: ENTERPRISE on blu-ray

I have season one on pre-order from Amazon. The only other series I will consider buying again to get HD is DS9.

Re: Stop The presses! Entreprise finaly comes to Blu-ray

Congratulations! Now all we need is to do is getcha thread pinned. ;)

Re: The bird is out: ENTERPRISE on blu-ray

I just saw the trailer---boy the CGI has not aged well at all! I just recently re watched "Dead Stop" from Season 2 (the one with the repair station), and I found that the CGI was looking really bad on the DVD (being upressed to 1080p), now it looks absolutely horrible.

Re: The bird is out: ENTERPRISE on blu-ray

I say let's wait for the final product. I cannot judge by some flashing images in a compressed trailer. I really want to see how it holds up. The fact is that Firefly has SD effects up-scaled to 1080p and they look pretty good so I really don't think 720p up-scaled to 1080p will look worse ...

Re: The bird is out: ENTERPRISE on blu-ray

I'm not too sure where you are getting this 720p stuff for the effects, since every where that I've looked, whether it be the old Communicator magazine, or other sources, say that the special effects were done at 1080p, the same level as the transfers for the live-action sequences.

But the funny thing is that all the HD broadcasts of Enterprise are at a level that is about equal to that of 480p DVD, not Blu-Ray, by the time that they reach your house.

I don't have a source, but it has been mentioned several times that the effects were done at 720p, since that's all that could be broadcast.

Re: The bird is out: ENTERPRISE on blu-ray

I always thought the effects were done at 480p due to the render times?

Re: The bird is out: ENTERPRISE on blu-ray

^ No, ENT was made in HD from the get-go.

I have all four seasons from iTunes and they look great in HD.
