Enterprise is the Best Trek Ever...

Like VOY I felt ENT could have been so much better than it was, as I said earlier S4 was best season of it as it finally started to be the show it should have been. Exploring how disperate races came together to form the UFP.

I might have made it a wholly human crew from the begining, maybe keep Phlox but lose T'Pol. After all part of the show was about humanity making it's first major steps into the interstellar community without the Vulcan's looking over their shoulder.

Well, I'm up to Episode 2.18 on a rewatch, though I missed several S1 - S3 episodes during initial run. My opinion has always been S1 and S2 were meh, with a few gems.

I don't get along with Scott Bakula well, there's just something about him that irritates me for some reason. I enjoyed most of Quantum Leap despite him, not because of him. Al, on the other hand is awesome, as is Cavill.

So, I'm not sure if I was harsh on the show in first run, because I was spoiled by B5, DS9, and Farscape, or if it was my Scott Bakula Bias, or my preconceived notions of what the show was supposed to be about <Dammit  > (IE: Manny Coto brought me what I expected the show to be from the start) or maybe my standards have lowered since there is no current Space Opera available :alienblush:

Well, I've really enjoyed most of what I've seen so far, lots of variety of stories and aliens and ongoing plot threads. I like most of the characters (Main and recurring, matter of fact, I can't think of a recurring character I don't look forward to when I see they are appearing). The Suliban Temporal Cold War irritated me to no end on first run, but, I'm totally down with it this time :alienblush:

I'm looking forward to the last run of episodes for S2 and looking forward to S3 (I think I watched half of S3 episodes during first run, though throughout the season, not limited to one end of the season or the other), as I did feel the more obvious arc was more enjoyable at the time (curious to see if I still enjoy the change of format/story direction more than my new appreciation for S1 and S2) and I recall loving S4, and though I didn't miss an episode of S4, I haven't watched it since, so I'm expecting that to be a treat too.

Enterprise had the best production design - I think - out of all of them. Except for the basic shape of the ship... but even they did really well with that. The sets and props all look fantastic.

I also think the acting and characterizations were fantastic. None of this "I sense...the obvious!" and "the only piece of business I have in this scene is standing up and adjusting my silly costume" nonsense.

But I don't really like the big 'story arc' of the series - temporal cold war, yahda yahda.

I thought it was best as a show when it showed us things we'd heard of before but never seen. There's a whole backstory to explore, they didn't need time travel and a huge race of beings we'd never heard of/care about. And Earth being attacked wasn't effective. They didn't need to do that to create drama.

Honestly some of the best episodes, for me, involved things like the dog getting sick and not having first-contact protocol.

You can only almost-blow-up-Earth so many times. And since you made a show about the past, please stay out of the future, okay?

Yuri is it You? Great screen name. Welcome to Enterprise. I like the simpleness (not simplicity) of ENT. TOS was that way too. I am probably the only one who enjoyed Terra Nova and the other season 1&2 episodes.
And the production values were so much higher than any other Trek - although lowtech gave us the Gorn Captain:)

Enterprise is one of my three favorite Trek shows, along with TOS and TNG. That anyone ever intended it to be "not Trek" is arrant nonsense, going no deeper than noticing that the title didn't include "Star Trek" for the first two seasons and drawing broad unsupported conclusions from that.

It was enjoyable, though, to see those tedious and overbearing 24th century structures - the Federation, Cardassian Empire, etc - banished as crutches for the stories. There was a greater sense of adventure and emphasis on individuals than there had been for some time in Trek.

The second year of Enterprise was the only one I thought was really aimless and lacking.

My favorite episode is also "Carbon Creek". Just a great episode all around. I'm also a big fan of the episode "Similitude". I did an Enterprise rewatch a few months ago, and it went from being my least favorite show, to being 3rd on the list. Just a great series, overall. Wish I could have seen it have another season at least.

I, too, did not dislike Enterprise (except for the theme song). It took a while to find its momentum, but I did like both the Xindi third season arc, and the fourth season under Manny Coto's helm. I do wish we got to see his vision for the fifth season and beyond.
I did dislike Enterprise. I loathed Enterprise. When it went off the air I was glad it was put out of my misery.

BUT...

I just finished rewatching the whole thing on Netflix, and I have to admit, it was pretty damn good. I think when it first ran, I was too hung up on the disappointment of it not being what I wanted it to be to appreciate it for what it was. I wanted them to be less advanced technologically. I wanted them to be less boyscout and more morally ambiguous. I wanted to see how the Federation and Starfleet's ethics evolved, instead of having them all embodied from the start in Captain Archer.

This time around, I just decided to enjoy it for what it was, and it turned out to be really entertaining. The Xindi arc in particular was something I originally hated, but now loved.

This was a good show that was the victim of its viewers' expectations.

After giving up on the show the first time around, I recently decided to give it another try on Netflix. I skipped a lot of the first two seasons, aside from some of the more important episodes. I enjoyed Season 3, but it wasn't until Season 4 that I thought the show really started to shine. I was not a fan of "Through a Mirror, Darkly." I liked the idea of a MU episode, but this one had absolutely nothing to do with the prime timeline, so at the end I just had a big "what was the point?" feeling about it. Otherwise, though, I really enjoyed Season 4 and the actual attempts to show the forming of alliances and the birth of the Federation. That's what the show should have been about from the start.

I'm just about done now, Got the Second Episode of In A Mirror Darkly and the two Part Peter Weller one Demons/Terra Prime, and of course TATV left to go. It's been a great ride, I'm glad I let go of my preconceived notions and biases and gave the show another look, though I doubt anything will be able to all me to find pleassure in TATV :(. I'm hoping I'll find Voyager just as enjoyable

^Despite all the bad hype, I actually discovered that I really enjoyed TATV. I kind of viewed "Terra Prime" as the series finale and "These are the Voyages" as a coda or epilogue.

Enterprise was not the best Trek Ever. It didn't look like, or behave like what it was supposed to be, a prequel to TOS and all other Trek. The very design of the Akiraprise was disappointing to most, and the characterization of the Vulcans was also a disappointment.

Bakula, a great guy and actor was not given good writing, and only the actor playing Trip was truly able to turn bad writing into good performances on a consistent basis, imo.

If ENT had continued they MU episodes would've continued as well. Another reason why so many were disappointed by the cancelation. The MU episodes were very popular.

Oooo looking forward to you in the VOY forum Sindatur. We're a rather friendly bunch there (some might say over friendly, LOL)

Demons/Terra Prime is great stuff.

Well My mom, is pretty much house bound, breathing problem from collapsed lung. About once every 3-5 weeks, I go shopping for her, and bring her books and DVD entertainment, because she doesn't have cable and no computer (Currently she has My SG-1 all 10 seasons DVDs and the original movie, plus the SG-1 Movies as well half of NuWho). Next time I go shopping for her (probably within the next week or two), I'll be picking up SG-1 and Doctor Who and dropping off ENT and VOY for her. So, I'll be watching something else for the next month (Maybe Roy Thinnes The Invaders or the SG-1, but, Warped9 is about ready to do a FIRST TIME watch of Patrick McGoohan's The Prisoner, with a "watch thread" on the General SciFi Board so I may follow along with that).

Voyager is definitely high on the list when it comes back, though.

I'm going to be doing SG-1 very soon.

The Prisoner I watched years ago, not inspired to do it again at this point.

I have avoided Stargate discussions on this forum because I'm not all caught up on it and want no spoilers :(

For me, the genius of IAMD was that it didn't attempt to hook up with all of the other MU episodes from other shows or with the normal ENT universe. Instead, it hooked up with a non-MU episode from TOS, The Tholian Web.

Finished up Enterprise Demons/Terra Prime. Really enjoyed Enterprise overall, and glad to watched it again, and will be happy to watch again in the future.

Next up is TNG Movie #5, you know, the short one These Are The Voyages

I really enjoyed In A Mirror Darkly, though, I can't think of any Episodes of S4 that I didn't really enjoy
