I still can't slog through every episode of TAS. Only Trek series I haven't seen every episode of, and I've tried. Even if I didn't love Discovery, which I do, there are definitely worse.
I don’t think I ever watched the final two episodes. Not that I didn’t want to, I just never got around to it. I have the DVDs.
I've done at least two complete runs of TAS as well as watching random episodes here and there, but outside of a few, they really aren't all that memorable to stick with me.
Not really. Every show has some memorable material and a lot of piss-poor material. Discovery's problem is that it simply hasn't done enough episodes to generate the minimal amount of memorable content.
Mileage varies. I recall more deep and moving moments in Discovery than Enterprise or Voyager. I come up with 7 off the top of my head for Discovery, while 2 stand out to me in each of the others.
All I can say is I remember it differently. In fact every new interation of Star Trek has had its rapid detractors. I can't tell you how many times I saw "It isnt Star Trek without Kirk, Spock and McCoy." during TNG .Or back during the making of Wrath of Khan when Spock's death leaked. Any of that sound familiar? Do you honestly think that wouldnt have happened had social media been around back then? I promise you there would have been endless youtube videos calling Janeway a mary sue or numerous videos of how Scott Backula is a horrible captain and the show needs to die. Because that was the kind of things I read on a consistant basis. All social media has done is give a voice to people who frankly love hearing the sound of their own voice and reading their own B.S. Trekkies will always be Trekkies
I think this sums up how I feel about it. I like it, but it's as you said, difficult to know where to 'put' it. I know full well that it is not, but I place DSC in its own little stream (along with SNW) of canon for my own purposes.
Oh it definitely would have happened if there was social media back then - but because there wasn't I think the negative discourse is more prevalent now. I think social media has also made people just act more nasty to others so there's also that. I've been cursed on and insulted multiple times on twitter over the years, as recently as yesterday, simply for saying I like the new shows. I don't remember anyone who liked Enterprise being treated that way back in the early 2000s.
If they had approached Enterprise the way they approached Discovery, i.e. take risks, go for broke, upend expectations, it may have been *even less* popular, but it could have been a great show. I wish Discovery had taken a more kelvin-esque (ship not verse) approach to being a prequel, but it's a flawed masterpiece, superior to Enterprise in almost every respect
K...so that proves my point that social media is the reason discourse is worse, not the Trek show itself. Guess we will just have to agree to disagree. IMO sending threatening letters in the mail to an actor's family is far worse than petty name calling on Twitter.
Maybe someone that started with the 09 movie would disagree, but the pace and action on Discovery is too over the top for my taste. I have a new appreciation for Enterprise now that I can go back and see what I missed on Paramount Plus. In the 00s, I was sick of the time travel stories and the temporal cold war didn't capture my imagination.

I actually agree with you on both of your points. I was not aware people sent threatening letters to people associated with Enterprise. Of course that's worse than twitter name calling. Had I been aware I may have mentioned it.
Enough of this crap. I've been a fan for 32 years and started with the TOS Movies. Generalize much? That's interesting, because the complaints about the fourth season were that it was too slow and people spent too much time talking about their feelings. Doesn't exactly sound like "over the top" pace and action to me.
I wasn't referring to any season in particular. The style of action on Trek, starting with the 09 movie, seems different to me. It's my overall impression of the show. I watched most of the fourth season when it was out. It's my personal taste. I'm glad someone can enjoy something I don't.
The biggest difference is simply the pace. The action is the same. The pace has been adjusted to a more modern style.
Your tastes are your tastes, but please don't make assumptions about the rest of us. I'm not even a fan of the Kelvin Films. I tolerate them.
