Enterprise Evolution from TOS to TMP

The location and design of the core is from Jefferies Phase II cross section and the hatches he located on the hull. In the interior layout progression I am working on, there was a vertical shaft there in TOS, but not visible. This one is visible and the engineering room has moved back to surround it. Then in TMP it moves forward. The pipe coming off it goes to the engineering deck of the saucer where it provides power to the saucer. During saucer separation and other emergencies, that same energizer would convert the auxiliary power for the ship to use. This way it feeds off the warp engines in normal operation. Then the change to the configuration in TMP makes more sense because it is just more directly linking the system and the deflection crystal is a new way of channeling the energy rather than an abrupt design change. In this design the internal layout would be much like in TOS, but with an additional ring of crew quarters on Deck 6. Where the internal configuration of the TMP design is greatly changed (yet the transporters and sickbay still haven't moved). Using the more detailed TMP internal configuration to detail the TOS interior while thinking about this intermediate step made the process very easy. Jefferies drawings really helped as well. I have not followed his cross section, but the TMP cross section in the deck layout.
For Ent A I think the design might revert to this. They did use the TNG warp core as a stand in, but putting engineering further back in the ship makes more sense. And with this to work from, It fits.
And to think all this work is because I couldn't figure out how to arrange the Excelsior interior.

If I interpret your Phase II internal arrangement correctly, the warp core makes prefect sense to align the square warp core set room to the square hatch, and the yellow spot indicates the antimatter reservoir/storage pod/generator/integrator/thing.

Especially because the game "Star Trek: Elite Force II" puts a TNG warp-core and engineering room into the "bulge" between the nacelles on that model of ship. I was never super-convinced of the that layout, but when combined with your logic here, it could be a logical evolutionary step from Phase II, to TNG.
P.S. Though it never came to full development, does Phase II have a three-letter call sign in fandom like TAS, TNG, VOY, etc? (Some of these came from the Chronology.) I nominate PH2 or PHT if there is not one

I managed to finish TOS and Continues. Continues doesn't have anything new to add. I think they used the guest quarters plan from Charlie X (it doesn't match the one with many doors from Conscience of the King). I've started on the movies, but they don't apply to TOS or P2. I did find some useful shots of the 8 foot model and noted some things about the corridors. But I should be able to work out the last few sets. They are not complex, but I have no plans for them. The Herbarium is still my biggest hurdle. Not only what to do with it, but where to put it in the ship. My final step to my TOS E plans is to include each set and where it was located in the ship.
I that room in the place that the blue windows are in TMP, as I have said, but if you come up with a better rationale for some other place based on your close study please share how you figured it out.
I started my TOS deck layout by following the TMP deck layout and then moving backwards. So I have a deck in the saucer that would work. Deck 8. But I also have plenty of space in the Secondary Hull. It all depends on size and how the corridors work out. If I put it in the secondary hull, I would likely have one on each side and one of them would be for science and one for recration. Not sure about how I'd fit it in on deck 8 of the saucer. I have to get a good drawing of the plan first. Right now I think it is too small. Because I think that space is about as big as the bridge.
As big as the bridge? Interesting. Then here's another "crazy" idea: it could be located under the Bridge. We know that the Galley set from Star Trek 6 will fit under the Bridge, like Mr. Scott's guide to the Enterprise suggested its version of the Galley did, because the same set with some alterations was used as a Bridge for the Nebula-class. Since this is a place for the crew to eat and hang out, it makes a little sense. I'm not really a huge fan of the idea, but it was worth mentioning.
One of my ideas for CIC was to have it be next door to the bridge or be below the bridge depending on how I feel about layout.
Except for the TOS pilot bridge and the refit 1701 bridge, nothing will fit under the bridge because the bridge has to be lowered into the deck below to fit. In the case of TFF and TUC, it is the turbolifts that force the change. So deck 2 is nearly unusable. It is a ring. And the TMP ship design has a strange deck layout for decks 2 and 3 and 8 and 9.
A ring with some sort of guest (VIP) quarters (per TEI) probably linked to the external windows. I also think there is a security office for quick response to the bridge, and provide security for the VIP guests (prisoners). Probably a bathroom for bridge personnel, too.
Which issue is this? It just might be worth buying...
