Look at what Enterprise did with the sets. They gave them updates in texture and function. I'm not saying do it exactly like that show did but a bit further even. But what Discovery has done is a total departure. It's much larger and the layout (despite what so many here are saying) is not the same.

Just to clarify, are you saying what ENT did in the design of the NX-01, or with the Defiant in "In a Mirror Darkly"?

Has anyone posted TOS bridge and DSC 1701 Images taken at the same angle/perspective?
How's this?

What would you do with hd tv and 4k screen that show up detail, would you have the 60s bridge not touched for modern tv

Defiant...I also did like the nx-01 sets ...liked the industrial feel of the sets...

TOS looks great on my 4k. But I would not want it expect the sets to be exactly like TOS......Though they looked good on ENTERPRISE...there could have been more updates. Monitors, proper door labelling etc...

So, something that is virtually indistinguishable from the TOS set for most viewers. I personally think that's not a realistic expectation.

None of which would be sufficient to make the original design look plausible today.

New bridge looks great.
Nice update while still paying respect to the original in a general sense.

Let me give them kudos for retaining the original turbolift door shape. I had basically given up hope for that after they showed the door to Spock’s quarters. (I do wish it wasn’t outlined in neon. That just seems silly.)

It's a recolour of the door seen in the Starbase psych ward earlier in the season.

It also looks a lot like the doors seen on Voyager.

the too-low-to-be-practical bridge railings, which I'd think would annoy some folks.
I never noticed that until it was brought up here. It does seem to be something of a safety hazard, but it also allowed for some nice moments between Spock and Kirk:

Kirk seemed to be able to make himself comfortable anywhere without losing his command presence. I appreciated the way Shatner was able to project that; I think Mount does the same with Pike.

ETA: Could there be any more shadows on the WNMHGB bridge?

What's funny to me is that in a world where the Abrams movies never happened, I probably wouldn't be very happy with this bridge, but as things are, I love it. I've accepted the need to make a few changes for the sake of modernness.

Exact opposite here. If there were no Abrams films, I'd likely be more welcoming/accepting of the current Discovery sets and designs. :techman:

Yeah, I look at the navigation/helm on the JJPrise and then at this one, and suddenly the budget limitations of even a money hog TV series become clear.

The railings on the TOS bridge were a nice height for someone standing on the central lower floor to lean on. As far as the people on the surrounding upper level, though, a little turbulence would turn them not into protective barriers against falling onto the lower level, but into tripping hazards. ;)

The ST:TMP redesign, of course, set them at a more sensible height - and also not angled out over the lower floor (another TOS detail that the STDPrise bridge returns to).

So you would update it with little touches here and there so going against Tos bridge

Adding hd view-screens with the ships diagas well as weapons/shields etc. Keep the exact same floor plan of the entire ship .

Yes. But it would be the exact same size and no additions like hallways or doors and the helm would be pretty much the same size and definitely not all the shiny plastic. It would basically be a higher end version of the tos set. That's not what we got on discovery.
