The basic layout and geometry are close - the cove heights are within a couple of inches and each station is more or less one tenth of the circumference. The rear turbo lift is, of course, 36 degrees off from center.

Let's not fool ourselves. There is nothing faithful to the original designs except the basic shapes and maybe a splash of color here or there. Otherwise it's all different and so far removed from TOS that we can now just assume this is all a reboot, which it should have been originally.
If you can't see the similarities, I suggest you book an appointment with an eye doctor.

Are you including Galactica: 1980 ? I am one of those in the minority who actually likes it....

Let's just say that we're starting with NuBSG and easing into older stuff. We've managed to go from, "Let's watch Deep Space Nine!" "When did that air?" "The 1990s?" "Eh, no thanks." to "I think we should watch Deep Space Nine!" "Is it like Battlestar Galactica?" "It's got a lot of similarities." "Well, maybe that sounds interesting."

So all in good time!

I noticed the set lacks any of the holographic glass originally seen as a special effect on the Kelvinprise bridge, and then in real-life form on the Shenzhou and Discovery bridge sets.

I miss it.

Well the ones on Discovery at least are real functioning screens.
Either they didn't want it because it messed with the layout too much compared to the original, or they wanted to keep it unique to the other ships.

It does look like the Captain's chair's podium is connected to the forward consoles base like in TOS. Obviously it's a bit further back.

I actually never really liked or bought into the idea of transparent screens on any scifi shows or any Star Trek iteration. It always seemed impractical to me and I really can't imagine that it's helpful for concentration to look at lonely letters and pictograms in mid-air in front of the backdrop of the three-dimensional room. I also think that holographic displays are only helpful in some cases where you really need to see three-dimensional objects and rotate them and look at them from different angles. For the most cases I think that a good screen is still the more practical choice. So that's probably why in different time periods in the Star Trek universe technology like that was tried out in Starfleet ships but always abandoned because it didn't work out and people didn't really get hooked on it.

Tell him that a bunch of the people who worked on nuBSG also worked on DS9. The whole Dominion war arc is like a prototype of what Moore et al would end up doing on BSG.

me too. and it's so great that they were able to achieve them practically on those sets, they should've found a way to integrate them here.

The new captain's chair has wider arms that are angled at the front, flanges, additional wooden pieces down the sides, etc, compared to TOS:

The back is now segmented as well, and the base is significantly different, too. I think I like the new base better, actually.

Glad they kept the wood trim.

The consoles are the same width or wider - that's a simple function of the geometry given that the radius to bridge center is longer. It looks smaller in that picture because of lenses and perspective - it's two or three feet further behind the actor sitting in the chair than in TOS.

Also, six to eight inches are lopped off either side by the partition added to the design.

On some longer shots you can see the width of the consoles better.

I like it good take on the tos bridge, would ppl have been happy if they had walked out into the 60s brigde
Of course not. But they completely changed it. Dimensions are wrong, color is wrong, extra doors, hallway, helm is larger, view screen isn't even a passing resemblance. They could have done a better job. Just because we get a red/orange railing and a symmetrical captains chair doesn't mean it's a good take. They could have designed something that was more in line with the dimensions and layout. Take the chair for example. That is a good subtle upgrade. They should have applied that thinking to the whole bridge and interior for that matter....instead it is so far removed from the original design there is no way of reconciling it. No matter how hard everyone tries.
