It would seem to been chugging a long happily at around Warp 7 for most of the movie. More or less matching the Enterprise's speed.Surely V'Ger would have just overtaken them at warp and left them in its dust...![]()
It could have chosen to, it didn't because they managed to establish communications.
In defence of the new movie, some of the stuff is no dumber than the Enterprise refit being the only ship in range to deal with V'ger when the cloud is travelling to Earth all the way from Klingon space or the Enterprise being the only ship close enough to Regula One when she's only just left Earth orbit
The Klingons should have invaded, with all that nothing between them and Earth. In defence of the new movie, some of the stuff is no dumber than the Enterprise refit being the only ship in range to deal with V'ger when the cloud is travelling to Earth all the way from Klingon space or the Enterprise being the only ship close enough to Regula One when she's only just left Earth orbit
Or the Enterprise-B similarly being the "only ship in range" in Generations.![]()
I agree that it wouldn't have taken very long to eliminate Starfleet's "armada" (that's hardly what constitutes an armada if you ask me) but I'm in agreement that it happened a little too fast. The Kelvin (an older ship one presumes) was caught almost equally off guard. Even after their Captain had been terminated and the Narada had no reason to hold back the Kelvin managed to stay in one piece at the very least.
The fleet above Vulcan was utterly destroyed. Those ships were unrecognizably blown to bits. I'm not saying Narada wasn't capable of inflicting that sort of damage... just that it's on the 'unreasonable' side that it did it to six ships, simultaneously, in at most two minutes.

True, but many of this film's errors appear worse, and I defy anyone to produce an example of Trek with more defects per minute than this one.Or the Enterprise-B similarly being the "only ship in range" in Generations. In defence...some stuff is no dumber than the Enterprise being the only ship in range of V'ger or Regula One...![]()

That would actually be amazing if the 'defects' were coupled with possible in-universe explanations.True, but many of this film's errors appear worse, and I defy anyone to produce an example of Trek with more defects per minute than this one.Or the Enterprise-B similarly being the "only ship in range" in Generations.![]()
That's a cool idea. Start a new thread and see what people can come up with.
I'm already spending too much time just listing the ones I notice on the StructuredDream blog, but hopefully that project will be done in about six weeks. That would actually be amazing if the 'defects' were coupled with possible in-universe explanations. That's a cool idea. ^ In his defense, he did that during his LSD period.
Defects are in the eye of the beholder. TUC and FF are defective from start to finish in virtually every aspect of their conceptions. TSFS ain't lookin' good, either.
Ah, but "starring Christopher Plummer" is always the tip-off to a quality science fiction film:
^ In his defense, he did that during his LSD period.
So what period was TUC, crack?

Yes. He thought he was appearing in a new production of Twelfth Night; even congratulated Shatner on finally getting a real gig. It's been a long and difficult journey to sobriety for Mr. Plummer. If you see him at a convention, ask him about the "naughty pool parties" at Judi Dench's house.
