OK then. This is the SF/F Avatar contest, and the theme is the pioneering talent that was Nigel Kneale. So your avatar could be from any of his work. Yes, even Kinvig....

Your entry shouldn't be larger than 140 px x 140 px and/or 70kb and is accepted until 72 hours from the date of this post or until whenever I get around to posting the voting thread. Feel free to PM me if you need more time.

Over to you...

Wow, another one... who is Nigel Kneale? And what has he done?

This gives me an idea for the next time I do a contest: Avatars You've Never Heard Of. The idea is to post the most obscure avatar possible. People vote for all the avatars they don't recognize and the one with the most votes wins. ;)

I'm just amazed that such seminal figures in the history of SF TV as Gerry Anderson and Nigel Kneale can be called obscure. Seriously...

I've certainly heard of his work, but didn't know his name.... and as a person who's entered an Olaf Stapledon av or two before, obscure doesn't scare me. So note my av is created in a spirit of kinship! :D

I've not attempted to post an image here before...let's hope I don't break the internet.

A simple one, I know. But it sure scared the proverbial out of me when I first saw "...The Pit".

I'm a bit of a Hammer nerd, so I approve of this theme. ;) I hope I can whip one up in time. Will you give plenty of warning before closing the contest?

Now I have to choose from the Nigel Kneale DVDs I have. I have Quatermass II and Quatermass and the Pit, as well as The Abominable Snowman and The Witches.

Edit: IMDB says he also wrote First Men in the Moon and the The Woman in Black TV movie. Maybe I'll do something from the latter; for a movie with few special effects, it was pretty damned spooky.

How's this for obscure? The Magic Pumpkin from Halloween III Season of the Witch. Nigel Kneale was the uncredited writer of the film.
