Re: ENT Forum Mediation Thread--Please Participate

I'm thinking things are a bit better, yeah.

Re: ENT Forum Mediation Thread--Please Participate

^Probably a little too early to tell for sure just yet, but I think I've been getting a few less 'notify mod' messages. :)

Re: ENT Forum Mediation Thread--Please Participate

Can't offer an opinion on whether it's better, because for the most part I begin studiously ignoring this forum around Tuesday night when the Canadians see the week's episode, and not coming back until Saturday at 10 p.m., when *I* finally get to see it. :)

Are there really 'shipper wars? I knew there was sniping between 'shippers and people who don't like 'shipping in general, but I didn't realize different groups of 'shippers got on each other...

Re: ENT Forum Mediation Thread--Please Participate

^It tends to go in cycles - we all agree to disagree and try and play friendly and then a tidbit or an episode will come out that seems to favour one of the 'ships and some folks get excited and others are disappointed and then we all kinda end up worked up for a few days before we all agree to disagree again :)

So far I think things have improved, the grading thread this week has been remarkably civilised except for one disruption.

I really hope this trend continues :)

Never be offended by trolls! Its a sign you were, read, understood, and really got under someone's skin. I never understood why the purpose of any discussion was only for POSITIVE (read suck up) commentary about anything. Remember, a great many Paramount employees are the trolls here. I got ripped up good just for posting an amusing list of psychic spoilers.
Stop trying to please people here and say what is truly in your heart. I have. I have no regrets for anything I said here. UPN is gone from my viewing area. I can't watch Enterprise anymore. All I can do is provide possible answers to continuity questions.
Trollers are sent here for a specific reason. No amount of mediation will stop them. No management team in the universe can bear negative commentary about their product and B And B are no exception. Be flattered when they hate you!

I'm curious -- are the mods seeing a general improvement in behavior in the forum since this thread was opened? I think I am, but I'm also not reading as heavily here in the last week or so.

Tentatively I'm going to say yes, but only if I can get a "no jinx" clause with that. :)

So far, so good, but only time is going to tell. One thing I'm happy to hear about is what commodore64 mentioned in her post, and that was private messaging leading to better communication between posters, groups, 'shippers, etc. It really is hard to tell tone or even sometimes intent from a post. Privately asking someone what's up or if they wouldn't mind clarifying is often a way to head off disagreement before it even begins. In the past, I've PMed someone to clarify a point or post I've made.

On the "replying to one line of a long post" issue: for people to habitually post long discourses and expect that anyone who wants to address or acknowledge any part of one ought to be required to take on the entire thing sentence by sentence is arrogant, period.

And believe me, I know arrogant. ;)

Quite frequently there's only one aspect of or one sentence of a post that attracts a particular poster's attention.

People also have a right to dismiss that which they consider worthy of dismissal.

On to things I find annoying around here:

Mainly, posters who are habitually personally rude about the people who work on these shows. "I think Joe Blow's script for 'Interregnum' was awful" is different from "Joe Blow ought to get a job cleaning out toilets because he's a wart on the @$$ of Trek. I'd love to meet him so I could spit in his face; he's not deserving of any respect from trek fans after 'Interregnum'".

If we're nasty to one another, we get warned -- but the rule seems to be that as long as someone isn't a registered member of TrekBBS one has to threaten their life before they're reigned in (yeah, that's an example which sadly enough is not hypothetical).

I don't expect that to change -- just wanted to mention how disgusting it is.
Thank you Dennis. Many people associated with the show don't post here for that very reason. As to the long and wordy posts please I work 70+ hours on the darn thing don't expect me to read a negitive post that lasts 5 pages.

Re: ENT Forum Mediation Thread--Please Participate

The one thing that winds me up is people who jump into a thread, insult a poster or posters in that thread, e.g. :

You're sad.

Why does this thread exist?

Dont you have anything better to do with your time?

....and then jump back out. Really, what's the point? Making posts like that is a waste of time and bandwidth, as well as being bloody rude.

Criticize points the poster has made? Yes. Criticize the poster themselves? No.

Sure thing, thanks.

If I worked as hard as you guys do, I'd spend less time on the internet too.

This place sounds like it has gone completely to hell since the last time I stopped by. Screw my 3.92 GPA-clearly, my attention was needed here.

How so?

If I hear someone begging to have their account deleted, for example, I can tell there's a problem. Since a spate of recent disruptions have been the topic of most of your own posts in this thread, I can only assume you are being deliberately obtuse, or that you suffer from amnesia.

You people need to get help if you take anything written on a message board that seriously as to require this! I almost fell out of my chair reading some of these posts.

Re: ENT Forum Mediation Thread--Please Participate

^^ Perhaps, but message board or not, this IS a community, and people who are part of communities (even virtual ones) tend to want them to work well.

Agreed, and since this forum is probably the most highly charged (behind TNG) due to its wide variety of differing opinions, its a breath of fresh air for both posters and moderators to be working together to solve the problems here instead of staying divided and driving people away.

Since the thread has opened, I have noticed this forum is a hell of a lot more settled down, with better discussions and debates going on than before. I don't know the stats but i've seen less warnings being given out and less disruptions generally compared to 3 or more months ago.

I'd like to give my personal thanks to all the mods who have kindly taken to time to listen to all of us.

Re: ENT Forum Mediation Thread--Please Participate

I have been staying away from the Enterprise forum and only droping in from time to time. Because I am tired of the insults just because I think the character of Trip is "manipulative and can not be trusted".

I tolerate the "Archer and Hoshi" haters even though I like the characters. Why can't those of us who dislike Trip be given the same consideration?

I find my name being mentioned even when I am not participating in a thread.

link here

Can we please have some tolerance?

Edited to turn long URL into a text link

Re: ENT Forum Mediation Thread--Please Participate

^^ You have a point.

I like Enterprise and I think that's fairly obvious from most of what I post here, but nonetheless, when I post something critical, frequently I feel that I have to preface it by saying that I AM a fan, otherwise somebody will jump on me with a hyper-defensive comment.

(And, actually, I think the time I got most jumped-on was when I said something negative about Trip -- back before Season 3 began and he started to grow on me.)

P.S.: Could you edit your post to turn the URL into a text link? It's stretching the thread way out of shape.

All i know is that this is my favorite place to post. Startrek.com is full of hateful, mean people with no sense of humor. In my opinion, a good sense of humor is all you need.

YOU GUYS ROCK!!!
