Hello all,
Not so much an introduction as a 'reintroduction' as I am member of the BBS from years ago when Voyager was in its final season and Enterprise was just announced.
I wasn't very excited about the idea of a prequel series, feeling that it was done because the Star Wars prequels were the current thing in the theaters, Viacom/Paramount wanting its own Star Trek prequel.
Main reason that I had serious doubts about Enterprise was because I felt the writing would be similar to that of Voyager which I despite as a fan of that series started to see the flaws off. And adding to that continuity issues that would clash with the canon of the chronological later series.
After watching several episodes of Enterprise I felt my suspicions were justified and that this was not the prequel to the original series that I wanted.
I stopped watching the series though I kept checking up what the new episodes were about as I was still curious what direction the show would go.
A couple of years ago I decided to check out season 4 as it was in general praised by most of the fans and found myself enjoying the stories of the episodes (I skipped on Storm Front and TATV back then), even if they are indeed somewhat 'fan-wankish'.
I felt it build up more towards the original series than the previous seasons did and which I applaud Manny Coto and his team for.
I am still not a fan of seasons 1 and 2 because of the mixed quality of episode stories but I have a soft spot for the episode "Regeneration" as I am Borg fan despite how the concept of the Collective suffered under that later seasons of Voyager, dismantling the Borg's mystique.
I don't know what to make of Season 3. There is definitely a lot more serialized story telling which IMO was a good decision on part of the producers but I wasn't sold on the idea of the Xindi threat. For one that it was never mentioned in the other Star Trek series which was another continuity clash in my eyes.
Recently I watched the season and I feel that I didn't miss out much by skipping on it earlier in favor of season 4.
At the end I found myself wishing that there had been indeed a season 5 based on the script/story proposals that can be found on Memory Alpha. This includes the Borg Queen origin story even if it clashes even more with canon.
I was so looking forward to the idea that I decided to write my own story proposal for the episode that I call "Ascension to the Throne".
So yeah, after having deliberately ignored Enterprise for years because of the reasons I mentioned, I have come back on my earlier feelings on the show, and have developed a fondness for it, in particular its last season.
I am looking forwards to talk with people about the show.
