Ensign Lynch'd

AWESOME! Did he get the reference? What did he say??

I'm sure he didn't realise he'd used a TNG quote, or that he'd used "the Q voice". He just stared at me blankly wondering why I'd suddenly gone all starstruck on him.

But the encounter was overheard by a few committee members and they all thought it was hilarious.

At a different convention, I was introduced to Suzie Plakson (Dr Selar, K'Ehleyr, Lady Q, Tarah) as "the guy who wrote your biography page in the con book", but I was dressed as Groppler Zorn ("Encounter at Farpoint") at the time, and I was able to paraphrase movie-era James T Kirk with, "You're not exactly catching me at my best."

Oftentimes, my friends and I will slip a random Trek quote into any conversation we're having, the more random (i.e. completely unrelated to what we're actually talking about) the better. Our favorite, by far, is....

Gracie is pregnant.

Speaking of that, I talk with a friend on Facebook about Lost episodes in Darmok talk, nerdy as all get out!

For instance:
Ricardo in chains on the ocean, his eyes closed.
Jacob on the island, his bottle corked.
Smoke on the water, fire in the sky.
Richard on the island, his eyes open.

This is so awesome!!

I find the remote to my projector and look for the input button marked "computer." I say "computer" in a Scots accent and sometimes hold the remote up to my mouth and go, "Heloo, computer." They have NO idea.

That reminds me of a similar thing that happened to me a couple years ago. This was at a bar I used to hang out at. One day the bartender, a young pre-med student, was having trouble making the soft-drink gun work. Nothing was coming out.

She put it near her mouth, and quoted the same Scotty "Computer" lines you mentioned. The funny thing was that she had no idea that I was a Star Trek fan.

my only funny story involves a Star Wars line.

my college tutor was trying to find the right key to unlock the room where the video kit was kept (him having only been in the job a coupla weeks) and he made a joke about 'use the Force, eh?' to me as he knew i was a SF nut.

he picked a key and tried it. wrong key.

completely deadpan, i said 'your powers are weak, old man.'
