You telling me they couldn't have made the off-shift helmsman do the medic job? Or any of the literally dozens of crewmen we saw?

According to a web site that counted these things stringently which I can't find any more, counting Kes and Neelix, 28 poeple left or died... But I think that's also counting Hartry and Naomi from Deadlock, and possibly even Kes from Fury... Possibly Quinn?
They didn't even bother, instead choosing to force the senior officer in charge of helm to be a medic.

Harry should have hit that. It was a pity she only got one episode.Who wouldn't want more McKenzie Westmore as Ensign Jenkins the midnight helmgirl?
NuBSG, had hundreds of citizens from Caprica on board the fleet ships to recruit. If anything the President could always enforce a draft if needed. Voyager had no such luxury.Even if you use the excuse that it would have been cost prohibitive to re-do the CGI every week to reflect damages, there are other things they can do. Set damage, plotlines, shoot, even crew deaths. Even in NuBSG, they kept having to recruit new pilots to replace the ones that died. Its just not plausible that they would make it 7 years and only lose a handful of people. They also should have picked up tons of new crew, expatriates and curious travelers, not just Neelix and 7 of 9 (who's conveniently human anyway).
It's meant to be to draw attention to the fact the the most traumatic events and high crew death took place in reset/alternate time line eps.Half the series was an alternate timeline or a reset? I don't much care for Star Trek: Voyager, but even I'm willing to admit that's a ridiculous exaggeration.
Factor in "YOH", "Timeless" "Before & After", "Deadlock"....Well that is a possibility with Caretaker-Fury being undone in the latter episode...maybe...

Yes.About Ensign Harry Kim: Is anyone at Trek BBS upset he survived the cut in "Scorpion" and they wrote off Kes instead? I read last night online that Harry was meant to be killed off in said episode to make room for Seven of Nine. But after a People article applauding him, TPTB decided to spare him and get rid of Kes?
