"Encounter at Farpoint" Line-by-Line

DATA: Projection, sir. We may be able to match hostile's nine point eight, sir. But at extreme risk.

PICARD: Now hear this: Print-out message, urgent, all stations on all decks. Prepare for emergency saucer sever. (To Worf) You will command the saucer section, Lieutenant.

Picard: Make the mark, Data. (Picard, Deanna, Data, and Tasha move to the emergency turbolift as relief crews come down to man their posts and Worf moves to the command area just as Picard taps his combadge) Note in ships log, that as of this star time, I am transferring command to the battle bridge.

Captain's log, stardate 41153.7. Preparing to detach saucer section. so that families and the majority of the ship's company can seek relative safety while the vessel's stardrive, containing the battle bridge and main armaments, will turn back and confront the mystery that is threatening us.

(Families of various races make their way along corridors as the bridge crew settle into the more compact Battle Bridge)

Picard: Lieutenant, your torpedoes must detonate close enough to the hostile to blind it at the moment we separate.

PICARD: Worf, this is the Captain...

[Bridge]

PICARD (over comm): At the moment of separation, we will reverse power just enough to get your saucer section out ahead and clear of us.

Tasha: Torpedoes away, sir.

(Several torpedoes fire from the Enterprise's aft torpedo launcher, heading back toward the Q ship)

DATA: Starship separation in six, five, four, three, two, one.

The theme music plays while the huge saucer lifts away from the body of the ship.

DATA: Separation is successful, sir.

(The saucer flies away while the battle section turns and flies back toward the Q sphere. As they head back, the torpedoes begin to detonate on the viewer)

Tasha: Torpedoes have detonated, sir.

Data: Reverse power, decelerating.

(The Enterprise comes out of warp and begins to slow to a crawl)
