Emissary....

Distorted Humor

Fleet Captain
Fleet Captain
Needed a break from my usual watching (Have been watching Babylon 5, but at 3 1/2 seasons in, I needed a break) so I slipped in S1 Disk 1 of DS9 and watched Emissary...

I forgot how good of a start this episode was. Even was able to get my mom who visiting to see a bit, and even if it was mostly Cardassain and Kardashians (She immediately rooted for whoever was opposed to the Kardashians  ) And she admitted she loved the dot work on Dax makup, for my mom who hates SF in all forms, that is high praise! (My mom at least gave credit to the art direction, though she did note the uniforms don't look as futuristic as they did back in the 1990s when it was first run.

Anyways, I thought it was a good summery of Trek in general, in the sense of imperfect people trying to understand each other and other species. And it was fun to see how some of the makup and writing was. (Bashir as a annoying twit of a kid, Dax being almost written correctly and not The Klingon groupie, and I forgot how nice looking Felicia Bell was in a bikini... And Do to the "Does Kira Whine" thread, I watched for it, and while she angry, it wasn't whine.. And I am still surprised they so quickly got rid of the first Kai, as she did a great job with the bad lines getting a spritual center in her role.

It was a great series opener, probably the best of all Modern Trek shows.

I especially can't help but tear up at the bit where the Prophets help Ben get over his wife's death.

If you liked the episode and if you like behind the scenes books, you should check out "The Making of Deep Space Nine" which takes a detailed look at the making of the episode.

Yes, she was strange but cool. I thought her very good in the role. Why WAS she removed so quickly? Was it to make way for Louise Fletcher?

Yet another way DS9 was ahead of its time! :bolian:
Haha, "Bloody Kardies!"

24th century VD is BAD folks...

I always wondered the same thing...does anyone know or should I ask that in a thread on its own?
