So the computer knows ahead of time that it will take two hours to compile a database of existing records, but can identify a navigation fix with zero a priori information in seconds flat?

The writers had some strange notions about 24th century computer capabilities.

The station's computers are Cardassian, not Federation. Cardassian computers suck, simplest explanation.

BASHIR: Not natural? You mean it was constructed?

DAX: It's very possible whoever made the Orbs also created this wormhole.

O'Brien: The Cardassians are leaving their position on a course toward the Denorios Belt.

 

[Alienesse]

KIRA: Mister O'Brien, what would it take to move this station to the mouth of the wormhole?

 

[BlueStuff]

O'BRIEN: This isn't a starship, Major. We've got six working thrusters to power us and that's it. A hundred sixty million kilometre trip would take two months.

 

[Alienesse]

KIRA: It has to be there tomorrow.
