Emilia Clarke cast as Sarah Connor in Terminator reboot

One thing we can all agree on:

Why did they pick that guy to play John Connor. He has no intensity .. certainly not what you'd expect of that of a guy known for smashing the machines into dust. This guy seems more like Smiley from Deep Space Nine

It's almost as if John is less a character and more a representation of what a character could be.. I mean.. he is recast every time we see him.

Interesting idea of what John Connor as a character represents. Maybe to some extent that is the point. I mean he is supposed to be this idealized leader so maybe he is more of projection of what other people believe or want to believe than a real character. Of course I thought they did a rather good job with him in Terminator 2, Sarah Connor Chronicles, and though he was namby pamby in Terminator 3, he came across as a flesh and blood character. However this was all before he took on leadership of the rebellion. Even in Salvation he was just beginning to really become the John Connor who led the rebellion to victory.

As for the trailer I wasn't too impressed with Clarke or Courtney as Sarah or Kyle. Perhaps the alternate timeline thing will work, though it is like a remixing of the first Terminator film and probably Terminator 2 than doing a new story in an alternate timeline like Star Trek '09 was. I do like the choice of Lee for the T-1000. I enjoyed him in GI JOE and he should make for a good terminator, even though it seems like a retread of Terminator 2. I'm iffy on Jason Clarke as John Connor. He's a good actor. I enjoyed him in Planet of the Apes, but I think Christian Bale as a badass Connor is going to be a tough act to follow.

I will definitely go to see it though.

Without James Cameron there to motivate(and at times aggravate) Emilia sort of falls flat as Sarah Connor

Sebastian Stan is a really good suggestion for Reece, the more I think about it. Who knows, if there's another film, no doubt they'll recast yet again...

It's funny how people always say "Arnold Schwarzenegger IS the Terminator, no one else!" but I've never heard anyone say "Linda Hamilton IS Sarah Connor" or "Michael Biehn IS Kyle Reese".

Turns out they actually are.

They should have cast Michael Biehn as future war John Connor. Fathers and sons sometimes look pretty much alike. And he's got a huge scar in his face anyways.

I still think they should have totally Yesterday's Enterprised it and got all the original cast back to play older versions of themselves in a timeline that shouldn't exist. Either that or Back to the Future II it with a new terminator and freedom fighter interacting with the original movie (more so than in this one)

I can't stand him. I don't like him as an actor and he seems to be a pretty unpleasant person. I was sorry to see him cast in Salvation and happy to see him replaced.

Good call.

I'd have said more 'Days of Future Past' but yes...

Can you imagine Kyle talking to Sarah about his attraction to her?

"I thought I was in love with you, but you didn't seem so damn short in the polaroid John gave me."

Amelia is 5 foot 1.

Linda is 5 foot 6.

Meh.

They're both pygmies.

They could look to that for inspiration too, sure.

It's arguable that without ANY of the time travel messing about, Judgement Day would never have happened in the first place as Skynet was built on the reverse engineering of tech from the future, if we take the deleted Terminator scene as canon. No time travel and everything would be just fine.

But the Terminator universe doesn't need paradoxes.

Nothing is fixed.

The universe's future keeps changing.

Which means that different/wrong future's keep thinking there's a paradox that they need to send someone back into the past to maintain the integrity of the timeline, when al this really does is create a new past that will create a new future.

(Branch theory says that both timelines survive, overwriting theory says that time is like a never-ending lasagne.)

This is why Judgement day keeps moving.

The future that made the past is gone.

No one has to be sent back because everyone that's arrived is from an old discontinued non accessible different timeline, all that's really happening is that the junk from time travellers in the past is building up in the 80s.

It's odd, that Judgement day is moving forward, occurring later, the more advanced the tech becomes that is available, as if it's harder for Skynet to launch America's missiles, the less stupid man becomes.

Or you know that kind of major plot point in Terminator 2 with the chip and arm left over from the 1984 Terminator.

Heh, I had my original movie head on so I was just looking at that.

Well to be fair its one of those things that if left in makes it fit better with the something in the sequel, kind of like how the alternate ending to X-Men: The Last Stand matches up better with The Wolverine.

I have a way to save the human race.

Rather than stop Skynet from taking over NORAD...

Initiate a successful first strike by the Russians significantly before August 29, 1997.

If you really want to swing it, guarantee no US nuclear response, which wouldn't be impossible for a time traveller, or Time travellers.

:)

Of course, what's China and Britain going to do with their bombs?
