Ellen Ripley needs one more story

RoJoHen

Awesome

I recently bought the Alien Anthology on Blu-Ray, and I just finished watching "Alien Resurrection," and I think there is still one chapter in the Ellen Ripley saga that needs to be told. "Alien 3" brings Ripley's character arc to a close and would have been a fitting end, but "Resurrection" opens it right back up again and does not provide a satisfactory amount of closure.

The way "Alien Resurrection" ends, it's pretty obvious that the military is going to be hunting Ripley down. After hundreds of years of trying to capture and tame the Xenomorphs, they're not going to just give up now. So here's my thought:

After years in hiding, Ripley and Call discover something disturbing about the military: They've found the Xenomorph Homeworld. Ripley sees this as her one final chance to take the bastards out once and for all, so she arranges to be onboard the ships that are leaving for the Xenomorph planet.

Hilarity ensues.

but the new ripley might not want to wipe them out, being slighly xeno herself.

I agree, the idea of a prequel is rather lame, they should be able to make a pretty cheap Alien 5, but then how will it end? With her dying again?

1) No she doesn't.

2) She actually needed one less story - there are three female archetypes and the first three films covered them.

3) They did it in the comics back in the 90s anyway, in the Female War

Indeed, I realize that. Perhaps she wants to destroy them. Perhaps she is curious to find out where she/they come from. Maybe she just want to stop the military from bringing them back. Maybe at the end of the movie she ends up nuking the entire planet from orbit. Maybe she stays and lives with the Xenomorphs. I don't know; that's what writers are for.

I just can't ignore "Alien: Resurrection," and I do think it has some merit, even if it is certainly a flawed film. I just feel like the new Ripley needs to bring closure to the franchise so that the original Ripley's sacrifice in "Alien 3" wasn't for nothing.

She doesn't need one more story, she needs four fewer ones.

I mean really...

More alien only movies the better.

She needs one more story. The one that ends with her waking up aboard the Sulaco with Hicks and Newt, realizing everything else was a dream, and going back to Earth to take up gardening. :p

Given all the nightmares we saw her having in "Aliens," there would at least be precedent for this. ;)

When they recovered her in Aliens from the escape pod before they woke her up they cloned her. Her clone was stuck on ice due to irreparable damage until they were able to slowly repair the original. Thus the Ripley in Aliens was a clone, but that at least takes care of movies 2,3, and 4.

Then we can have the original Ripley back and kick ass on the Xeno Morph home world.

I like the idea of an ageing, cynical part-alien Sigourney Weaver wreaking havoc once more. She's the best female action lead ever given a genuinely kick-ass role (pax Linda Hamilton), so of course we'd love to see her again.

I'd just really like Sigourney Weaver play that role once more before she is too old to do so.
