ELEMENTARY - News, Reviews, and Discussion

Score another way to shock Joan on waking up.

I find it hard to believe he could've assembled all that in her room -- including a whole wall of clippings right behind her head -- without disturbing her physically or making enough noise to wake her up.

I figured out very early that the shooting was staged in a fake room. Right in that first scene where Sherlock was reviewing the footage in the media room and discussing the impossibility of anyone getting into the office undetected, I thought about the fact that they were relying on a video to establish location and realized that someone could've faked the video. But I didn't figure out the rest.

I'm a little disappointed this ended up going the obligatory murder route. It would've been fun to see Sherlock pull off the heist. At least they could've waited until after the heist to bring in the murder angle.

I'm glad they brought back Fiona, though I think maybe they're advancing the romance a bit too quickly. This show has always been good about inclusion of diverse types of people (though we haven't seen Miss Hudson in ages), and it's interesting to see them work with a neuro-atypical character. It might've been nice to see more of Sherlock and Fiona bonding intellectually and solving problems together before the romance grew. She could've become one of his Irregulars and been included in the stories that way.

@Christopher Um...it was Breathed's way of giving Dallas some humanity, and doing it in a humorous, but meaningful way - to that "universe", and to us.

I bet Large that it brought some welling and tears to the eyes of a fan...or two.

And, it was the joke, as The Governor stated, above.

Huh? What does Bloom County or Steve Dallas have to do with this conversation? I never brought up Bloom County in any capacity. I was asking about the scene in this Elementary episode where Sherlock redressed Joan's bedroom to look like the media room. Joan asked how he moved her between rooms without waking her, and his explanation was that he hadn't moved her at all but had instead brought the stuff from the media room into her bedroom. My point is that that would probably have awakened her too, particularly given the need to assemble that wall of clippings right behind her head, which is something that probably couldn't be done without physically disturbing her or making enough noise to wake her. I have no idea what that has to do with Bloom County.

I apologize unreservedly! :guffaw: I got it wrong! If you see that strip, you will understand what I made the mistake on! So sorry!

Ah. I see the source of the confusion.
As a matter of realism, it seems unlikely Joan would sleep through all that. On the other hand, she may have developed a tolerance for odd sounds with Holmes about during her sleep time. If she didn't she'd be jumpy as a cat. I liked the joke, anyway.

I was thinking maybe Sherlock Kent'd her. You know form Real Genius, I hope she doesn't have braces and starts to hear Jesus talking to her.

It did progress rather quickly, but this actually works for me because it mirrors real life relationships for neuro-atypical individuals. Their relationships tend to develop over a short amount of time and become intense very quickly. Unabashed honesty and an inability/aversion to the typical "beating around the bush" that most people seem to like to do when courting can lead to very fast relationships. Speaking from personal experience, you meet someone, you instantly like them, you tell them so, and if the other person is also neuro-atypical, they do the same and there you go. It can happen in just a day. So much time is saved when you don't have to abide by typical social norms or play heart/head games.

Now whether it is intentional on the part of the writers of Elementary to portray the relationship in this way, I can't say.

Wow, that sounds great. Although I have to wonder if total honesty leads to faster breakups too... :D

No, just kidding. I think honesty is an essential thing in a relationship.

No, seriously, I didn't know that. Thanks for sharing. :techman:

Heh-heh... Today's episode was "A Study in Charlotte," and it borrowed the RACHE clue from A Study in Scarlet as well as the associated use of poisoning as the murder method. A rather different story overall, though.

Isn't this the second episode in, like, three weeks where the killer inadvertently killed several innocent people as collateral damage?

After the "Rache" tattoo reveal, I expected evil Mormons in the story. One Mormon who was making synthetic viagra sort of counts. :)

I wasn't happy with the episode's body count, but that's the nature of stories like this.

I expected Richard Kind to be the killer from the guest cast credits, so I was thrown when it turned out that, no, he was the disgruntled former neighbor of Sherlock. But I liked the way his story with Joan played out. If he becomes a semi-regular later in the season, I could be happy with that.
