There's only so much life experience someone can have at 21, regardless how hard their life has been. And at 21, no one is really qualified to be a warship captain with a crew of 130 (maybe more in the MU) under their command

Simply killing your captain/department manager/PTA president isn't enough. In Mirror, Mirror, when Chekov tries to assassinate Kirk he says that by killing the captain everyone moved up in rank. He didn't seem to be looking to be captain. There may be some sort of protocol that determines who gets to be captain upon their death.
People might fall in line because Killy is ruthless and has been assassinating her way up the chain of command.
Even if we entertain for the moment that she was XO when she killed the Disco Captain and ascended to the Captaincy herself, at her young age what she do, spend a few months or so at each rank before assassinating her way upwards?People might fall in line because Killy is ruthless and has been assassinating her way up the chain of command.

"How To Succeed In Business Without Really Dying" It really killed on BroadwayI'd think that if the guy working in the mailroom for a company on MU Earth wants to someday move up to a management position, he might need to kill the current manager above him to do so. Or if a parent wants to be leader of their child's school PTA, they might first need to kill the current head of the PTA.
Or am I overthinking the whole "how to get ahead in the MU" thing?![]()
I always imagined that Earth was united in the MU because Humanity couldn't afford to continue fighting itself in the face of "alien threats." So just like a famous Klingon once said, "Only a fool fights in a burning house..."
Yes, administered by Professor Snape. We do know something about Tilly's background. Her previous post was at the Imperial Starfleet Academy and she earned medals for Valor, for being a Master of Poisons, and for having killed fifty or more people. She is not as bloody as mu Michael Burnham, who killed a hundred or more people and got an award for it.
How do you prove you are a Master of Poisons? Are they given a test?
I'm just wondering what everyones thoughts are on Earth in the MU. It seems humanity within itself achieved peace and equality. Since females and different ethnic groups aren't relegated to servitude. So is Earth itself still a peaceful place (peaceful as in no war) in the MU??
If so did we achieve it the same way, or was it a case of "Hey, we've found someone else to hate we don't need to hate each other anymore".?
Thoughts??
Okay, but the character's age is only 21 or so. How experienced can someone be when they are 21?
Has her birth year been stated yet in the show?
ENT actually is what makes me think MU Earth wasn't that unified prior to first contact, though. Seemed like it just recently went through World War III too.If ENT is canon, The empire exists since before the first contact with aliens
Who says she's 21? Mary Wiseman is 32, we have no idea what Tilly did before joining starfleet or when she entered the academy.Okay, but the character's age is only 21 or so. How experienced can someone be when they are 21?
basically KelvinKirk's career thenSo, after looking over Memory Alpha's page on Mirror Tilly it turns out her previous assignment before becoming Captain of Discovery was serving at the Academy, meaning she really did jump from Cadet to Captain just by virtue of killing the Captain.
