Earths status in the MU?

WraithDukat

I'm just wondering what everyones thoughts are on Earth in the MU. It seems humanity within itself achieved peace and equality. Since females and different ethnic groups aren't relegated to servitude. So is Earth itself still a peaceful place (peaceful as in no war) in the MU??

If so did we achieve it the same way, or was it a case of "Hey, we've found someone else to hate we don't need to hate each other anymore".?

Thoughts??

Earth is clearly a united world in the MU, it's just that unity was achieved through war and conquest combined with the revelation of the existence of aliens more or less cementing a "we're all in this together"/"us or them" mentality.

I'd think that if the guy working in the mailroom for a company on MU Earth wants to someday move up to a management position, he might need to kill the current manager above him to do so. Or if a parent wants to be leader of their child's school PTA, they might first need to kill the current head of the PTA.

Or am I overthinking the whole "how to get ahead in the MU" thing?

"Who Moved My Cheese? Because I'll Slaughter Them" was a seminal classic in middle management culture.

It doesn't make much sense that a world that would always be plunged in war could ever make it to the stars.

I always imagined that Earth was united in the MU because Humanity couldn't afford to continue fighting itself in the face of "alien threats." So just like a famous Klingon once said, "Only a fool fights in a burning house..."

The logo has Earth with a sword through it; not a very peaceful or inviting visual!

In one of the comic book storylines, it's said that in the MU, Earth lost the war with the Romulans, who occupied the planet. Humanity later rose up and slaughtered the Romulan forces.

Thus giving rise to the Terran Empire, as Earth vowed never to be conquered again - from now on, humans would be the conquerors.

The fan film For Want of a Nail from the Starship Farragut series implied that the MU began due to the impact of members of The Farragut's crew traveling to the Revolutionary War and meeting George Washington..

And one of the Shatnerverse novels implies that ST:FC is the divergence point.

Meaning: Zefram Cochrane debates whether to tell anyone of the threat that the Borg would one day pose (as related to him by the crew of the Enterprise). If he doesn't reveal what he knows, the regular universe is the result. If he does, then humanity becomes increasingly militant, and the MU follows from that.

This was all well before "In a Mirror, Darkly" was even conceived, of course.

I’d imagine it’s a bit like Earth in the Starship Troopers movie. It looks clean and nice, but they cheerfully announce public executions for minor crimes and the torture of alien species on a regular basis. Their Starfleet is full of the backstabbers and monsters, the general public isn’t violent but are surly on a good day.

Going with the theme that is the Mirror Universe, mu Earth would be the opposite of pu Earth. It would be hell.

I can see a world where 'exotic species' are housed in zoos, demonstrating how much more advanced Humans are to these non-Human species who woud be seen as primitive.

Tilly made Captain by killing Disco's previous captain, thus shooting up directly from Cadet to Captain. I guess all the other officers aboard Disco are okay taking orders from a Captain who never graduated the Academy.

No, I'm not going to make the obvious comparison.

Honestly, I think it would be awful. Might makes right for them, it will be stripped mined, over polluted, with vast wealth and class inequality. I think you will have the military as a leading class and a road to wealth and power.

We have no clue what her rank was or when she joined. She need not have been a cadet and really no one would have followed a cadet. He list of "accomplishments" are not something a raw recruit could have pulled off.

Okay, but the character's age is only 21 or so. How experienced can someone be when they are 21?

You can join the US military at 17, that is 4 years. In the MU it could be younger and people who live hard can have far more life experience than their age suggests.
