E3 2009 Discussion thread HOLY SHIT MONKEY ISLAND IS BACK

Just catching up with the Sony show and is it or does there motion controller just not look as good as Microsofts ? the appeal to Microsofts one is NO CONTROLLER an yet Sony give us another one to hold though I guess that might make Sony's cheaper than Microsofts. Eve nthe tech guy using it seem to be having problems so I don't think its will be as easy to pick up as Microsfot Natal.

There both great techs and Sony show was much better than expected and they both nailed Nintendo's bore fest but am more with natal at the moment.

I don't think any of the platform holders disappointed this year, I was rather impressed by all of them, though to a much lesser extent with Nintendo (same old shit with "plus" at the end) but they did deliver on the games.

That said, in terms of motion controller unveilings, Microsoft owned everyone. Sony's looked pretty pathetic in comparison.

Holy crap! E3 pretty much buried this, but the sequel to FF4 - FF4: The After Years - came out on Wiiware on Monday!

Yeah, the only games that have me excited right now are Left for Dead 2 and Metroid: Other M. I'm feeling sort of mehhh on this years e3.

I think the trailer says its on a path for a 2010 release
You must be new to Nintendo world. When Nintendo says that SMG2 will be the first time two 3D Marios are on a console that means it won't be released until the Wii Too. ;)

2010 means that it will be delayed to no earlier than Spring 2011, but then it will be delayed until Christmas 2011. It may or may not come out then, could get delayed some more.

You must not be following Nintendo lately because they've really been sticking to release dates. It seems unlikely that Mario Galaxy 2 will suffer from major delays since the team has made a similar game before, they know what they're doing.

Well they used to delay things all the time, and I still think they delay games by a few months.

However they should cut down on delay times considering they make two Wii games a year.

Anyone see the new Assassin's Creed game? I'm really digging the setting (the demo was set in Venice, but it's supposed to include a bunch of Italian Renaissance cities). Between that and the Beatles Rock Band game, I might have to consider saving towards an X-Box.

Actually I thought Sony's motion controller looked far more precise then the Microsoft one. When they were painting with it they had to do very broad strokes, they couldn't do anything precise, while the Sony controller knew exactly where it was in 3D space (which I think the Wii motion plus can also do). Of course the Nintendo and Sony controllers don't use your entire body, but we'll just have to wait and see how well the Natal works.

The problem I have with the Sony and Microsoft motion controllers is who's going to use them? Wii Motion Plus is going to be cheap and will be bundled with at least 4 games this year, one of which is going to be one of the best selling games of the year (Wii Sports Resort).

I think the Wii had several things going for it in the casual market, the interest in motion controls, the low price point, and Wii Sports. I imagine Sony and Microsoft will have the intrest of casuals, but they don't have the low price point, and I have doubts that they will bundle their controllers with a must have game like Wii Sports. At most I think Natal and the lightbulb will sell a few million units and only get a small amount of developer support, while the majority of game developers on the console will just continue to make games for the standard controller.

Hmm Soul Calibur: Broken Destiny has Kratos as a guest chaarcter...that actually fits pretty well, especially compared to Vader and Yoda. :)

Mass Effect 2 is looking awesome, but then I'm not exactly surpised.

While I'm not a fan on MMO games the Star Wars: Old Republic trailer was fantastic.

Disappointed in the lack of an announcement for a new Zelda to the Wii. They've said it's in development (with the new Motion Plus thingy), but that's it... :( I need more!

2010 release date probably after E3 so next year Nintendo will probaby headline there show with that.

I was really hoping that they would announce it this year though. The amount of details that Miyamoto gave during his roundtable discussion yesterday was not very encouraging. From IGN's blog:

7:05 p.m.: "There are people who think of Zelda more as an RPG with simpler controls, so trying to figure out how to make everybody happy is something that's going to concern me," says Miyamoto.
7:05 p.m.: "Think of Zelda while you're trying some of the archery and sword play in Wii Sports Resort," Miyamoto say.
7:04 p.m.: "We'd like to make it compatible with Wii MotionPlus. It's quite possible it will be playable only with Wii MotionPlus."
7:03 p.m.: Shows new illustration for the next Zelda for Wii. Nothing to show yet, but it shows an adult link. More grown up than ever before.

It doesn't sound like it's very far in development at this point if all he can show is a still picture. I think Holiday 2010 is too early.

All in all, very disappointed with Nintendo's presentation this year... quite happy with Sony's though, so not all is lost.

Well, looks like MGS RISING is going to be multiplatform

http://e3.gamespot.com/story/6210520/new-castlevania-ps3-pc-mgs-rising-revealed-at-konami-event

PS3 and PC versions have been announced. My bet will be a 6 month timed exclusive for the 360

It also looks like those of us who are predicting that FFXIV will come to the 360 may be closer to the truth than we thought since Square is currently considering it

http://e3.gamespot.com/story/6210518/square-enix-considering-ffxiv-online-for-microsoft-hardware

It would only make sense. Since they are developing for the PC and the PC and 360 are particularly compatible, there really isnt a reason to not port it to the 360

Is anyone else as excited as I am for Golden Sun DS? The first two games are among the best RPGs of all time, so I'm eager to see what story, Djinns, and Psynergies they came up with for the third.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Super Mario Galaxy 2, and Metroid: Other M all look amazing, and I am glad to see footage of Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story.

Even during the initial announcement at Sony's press conference, careful wording was used: "Exclusive to the PlayStation 3 when it launches." I have no doubt that we'll see Final Fantasy XIV on the Xbox 360 at some point.

I'll also bet that Metal Gear Solid: Rising will be a simultaneous release when it launches.

Honestly, they're probably looking at the number of people playing 11 on 360 and writing that off. I'm sure a port could come, but there's no reason to waste resources on a version that'll lose money.

Of course, that's why having three different platforms is idiotic (now we have three waggle platforms! Yay!) but that's another discussion. :p

I dont think that would be the case with FFXI on the 360. After all, the game launched post wow and was essentially an out dated MMO even when it was brand new

Well, the only other test case is PSU... now that might just be a shite game, so I don't know.
Hell, when MS killed the Marvel MMO, it seemed like they themselves didn't have any faith on MMOs on their console.
Meanwhile, we have at least three MMOs coming on the PS3. They even - GASP - let people use keyboards in their games.

The new Mario games look great, but it's not enough to draw me back to the Wii. In the continued absence of Pilotwings despite its obvious suitability for the Wii hardware and audience, I'm forced to conclude that someone involved in the conception of the franchise ran over Shiggsy's dog or something.

Wii Sports Resort includes an airplane flying game, which is most likely the closest thing we'll get to a new Pilotwings game.
