E-Book Pricing Alerts

I’m depending on repeat sales at this point! (Laughing emoji here.) (Although, not really. All of the more recent ones I don’t already have I can get from the public library if I don’t feel like buying them at full price. And at the rate I’m going I won’t be getting to reading the later “Litverse” novels in several years anyway.)

— David Young

I’ve already bought more Trek books than I can complete this year. I’ve read two Picard books, and one DS9 Una book this year. I have enough from sales to last me all of next year. Unless it’s something that jumps out at me, I’ll wait. I might pick up the 7 of 9 book this month.

The problem is that Amazon is putting up other stuff for sale that I want to read. Picked up 6 Days of the Condor and Marathon Man yesterday.

We should have a best of the sales thread, where folks can point out the not to be missed books each month.

(Update: I had a laughing emoji here. I guess the board strips those out.)

(Laughing emoji here.)

I'm assuming you're on a mobile device, and trying to use the emojis from the device? I believe you're correct that those won't work. However, the board does have its own set of emojis you can use. (Or "smilies", as it calls them, because the board is ancient in internet years!)

If you're using the standard rich text editor to write your post, you can click the smiley-face icon (just to the left of the image icon), and then it will display all the available emojis at the bottom of the editor, and then you can just insert them by clicking on the appropriate one.

Alternatively, all of them have text equivalents that you can use to enter them. You can see the text codes by hovering over them in the list at the bottom of the editor. I won't list them all out, but here's a sample of some:

And one of my personal favourites, which I haven't really found a satisfactory equivalent for on my phone:

There are 51 in total, so check them out, and hopefully some of them will meet your needs!

@Smiley
I liked Resistance. I think it was interesting that Picard was able to walk a fine thin line. Not a bad read for $1 though.

SLIGHT SPOILER:
I wondered how Picard made it unscathed but Janeway didn’t make it story wise. I thought it was good setup for Picard’s relationships to the new crew coming to the Enterprise.

I wonder why the hell Star Trek the Return or Ashes to Eden have never been released as an ebook. A head scratcher there,

I was hoping for some BOLD ebook choices this month. 2 new ones for me. But September 3rd can’t come fast enough.

Give lots of love to @Greg Cox this month.

Thanks to @dstyer for the initial heads up as well.

Just putting the titles in the thread so that they are searchable if any of our future selves are trying to look back to find when any of these were part of a sale. :)

Star Trek: The Next Generation
The Q Continuum: Book One: Q-Space
The Q Continuum: Book Two: Q-Zone
The Q Continuum: Book Three: Q-Strike
#3 The Children of Hamlin
The Light Fantastic
Resistance
Hearts and Minds
#45 Intellivore

Star Trek (The Original Series)
The Weight of Worlds
#6 The Abode of Life

Looks like the only two new ones this month were the ones @dstyer already identified.

This is a really good month for me. Nine out of ten that I didn’t already have in ebook format. (The only one I already is Weight of Worlds.) And three of the nine being ones that I didn’t have in paperback either: The Light Fantastic, Resistance, and Hearts and Minds.)

Deals for September appear to be live on Amazon US, including The Captain’s Table: Where Sea Meets Sky, TOS: Black Fire, Starfleet: Year One, DS9: The Soul Key, DS9: Trials and Tribble-ations, TOS: Doctor’s Orders, VOY: Children of the Storm, TOS: The Lost Years, Discovery: Fear Itself, the ENT: Romulan War duology, and the Prey, Genesis Wave, Millennium, and String Theory trilogies.

Right now it seems like only the 2nd and 3rd books of the Millennium trilogy are showing discounts, at least for me. The Fall of Terok Nor is still at a normal price.

ETA: And now Fall of Terok Nor is available at the discounted price!

That makes !23! books on discount this month. I think that is a new record!

Very cool! I count eighteen that I don’t already have in Kindle format, so I’ll be getting (all but The Lost Years and Fear Itself, which I already have from previous sale months).

And at least four that I don’t already have in paper format either (The Soul Key and the “Prey” trilogy). Possibly the “String Theory” trilogy as well as those came out in the period where my buying records are incomplete or don’t match what I can actually still find amongst what I have. (I think at least a few of my Star Trek novels must have gotten put in with other stuff during one of my moves because my memory tells me I bought some that I no longer can find, and Amazon says I did for some of them as well.)

The official Trek page has been updated and is up for Star Trek Day on September 8th.

https://www.simonandschuster.com/p/star-trek-ebook-deals

September’s deals are good until October 1st 2023.

Is September 8th to coincide with the anniversary of the original 1966 tv show?

Such a great deal this month. 7 books for me. I am hoping the transfer of ownership doesn’t stop the monthly Trek ebook deals honestly.

Just FYI too there are different Trek ebooks discounted to $5.99 that I have not seen in the monthly Trek deals. Maybe something to consider?

I’m still holding out for The Time to series, and many more obsecure older Trek books that are due the the time and attention in the limelight, that they deserve.

All the best everyone. :)

Yes, exactly, they've taken to calling it Star Trek Day since it was the day the first episode aired in the US. Sadly my lobbying efforts to get it recognized as an official work holiday have been in vain... ;)

Of course, as I like to mention to anyone who will listen (admittedly, that's not many people  ), that's not the day of the first airing of Star Trek. The first market to ever see a regular airing of Star Trek was right here in Canada, where it premiered on Tuesday, September 6, 1966, on CTV. I tend to think we should also have a "Canadian Star Trek Day" (much like our Thanksgiving is a separate day from yours) on September 6, but that strangely hasn't caught on either!
