This month is also the 19th anniversary of the release of Tales of the Dominion War, which is still selling and for which I still get a tiny royalty every six months. (The royalties are split among all the contributors.) The book debuted at Shore Leave in 2004, and almost all of the contributors were at the convention that year, which was fabulous.

May need to try to do something for the 20th next year. Sadly, Josepha Sherman and Dave Galanter are no longer with us, but still.....

Hmm.....

Interestingly enough, when someone mentioned the Dominion War books being on sale on the UK site, I checked the US site, but the digital versions were not available for purchase on Amazon. Than this morning the post went up, and they were back on sale (yay for me, as I remember reading these years ago and they were quite good, glad to add them to my digital kindle library). I am not sure if they were just temporarily pulled for a price change or something else, but any Trek reader should prolly snag these up.

Hi @Leathco thanks. I’m confused. Which Dominion ebooks were cut and brought back? All are available and on sale on Amazon US now.

I still can’t purchase VULCAN’S FORGE on Amazon which is baffling and frustrating to me.

@KRAD congratulations on the continued success of Tales. It’s a great book. I’m grateful that we can celebrate authors who have passed through their works, in effect immortalizing them.

No new TREK ebooks on sale to post. But I will update when new ebooks go on sale.

All the best to all.

@Koric the ones I noticed were the four numbered Dominion Wars books, but Tales was available. Again, they are there now. Maybe I just looked in the middle of an update to pricing or something?

By coincidence, I just got a new royalty statement for that book. Looks like I can expect another small check for my story, even after nearly twenty years!

Sale page for July is up!

https://www.simonandschuster.com/p/star-trek-ebook-deals

Few other books, including an X-Men crossover

Another month with nothing new. I'm very happy that those who may have missed some of these during earlier sales will have an opportunity to get them at the sale price. But there are also a number of books that have never been part of the sales, and it would be nice to get some new ones more regularly than we've seen of late.

When were the numbered Dominion war books up last? I didn't own these yet and have been doing the monthly sales for a few years (prolly started around 2016) unless I missed something. Might have missed a month or three during some tight financial moments tho. All the others I owned already. Kinda hoping they finally put the A Time To books on sale soon.

At this point, they’re regurgitating sales. There’s so many numbered novels or other themes they could pursue that there’s just no interest. It’s fine, but somewhat disappointing.

Well, six for me this month (all ones that I already have in print but didn’t have in eBook): the four Dominion War novels, Rising Son, and the Captain Proton book.

Gets me to 196 Star Trek Kindle out of my completely-unofficial-just-what-I’ve-worked-up-total of 727. Which bopped me up one percentage point there to 27%.

My number of Star Trek novels not currently in my personal collection in either print or eBook stayed at 199 (which is also 27% by my figuring, although my overall target number there is 749.

The other two (Tales of the Dominion War and Seven of Nine), I already had picked up in eBook earlier (and also already have in print, too).

I have to admit that it surprises me that Simon & Schuster can still sell ebook copies of that TNG/X-Men Planet X novel. That their licensing agreement to be able to use the X-Men characters in it wasn’t short term and now made it something they can’t reprint anymore (or release digitally), like is typically the case with similar temporary licensed character crossovers in the comic books industry. (Marvel has a very robust reprints line but occasionally bumps up an issue or even an entire series that they no longer can reprint because they no longer carry the license to those characters that they don’t own.)

Anyway, my top eleven that I’d still like them to do next (or soon) remains the same as last month: To Lose the Earth (VOY), The Unsettling Stars (Kelvinverse), Architects of Infinity (VOY), Gamma: Original Sin (DS9), Rise of the Federation: Patterns of Influence (ENT), Enigma Tales (DS9), Hearts and Minds (TNG), Section 31: Control, The Long Mirage (DS9), Headlong Flight (TNG), and The Face of the Unknown (TOS).

@youngtrek “Beware of Romulans bearing gifts and bad news...

I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news. First off an impressive list.

Most of them I purchased at $6.99 because I was afraid of a huge price increase or just was impatient and wanted to read the ebook right away.

But, having said that I did get some titles discounted too.
Going through your list, here is the run down of the titles and prices:

To Lose the Earth (VOY) was $0.99 last reached on August 2, 2021
The Unsettling Stars (Kelvinverse) was $0.99 last reached on June 28, 2021
Architects of Infinity (VOY), never been on sale but was $6.99 now $7.99
Gamma: Original Sin (DS9), was $6.99 last reached on May 25, 2019 now $7.99
Rise of the Federation: Patterns of Influence (ENT) was $0.99 last reached on August 1, 2021
Enigma Tales (DS9) was $0.99 last reached on September 1, 2020
Hearts and Minds (TNG) $0.99 last reached on June 1, 2019.
Section 31: Control was $0.99 last reached on November 20, 2018
The Long Mirage (DS9), was $0.99 last reached on June 28, 2020
Headlong Flight (TNG),was $0.99 last reached on October 5, 2020
The Face of the Unknown (TOS) was $0.99 last reached on November 30, 2020

It is doubtful and unlikely that these titles will be discounted again, as most were only discounted once. Only one or two were discounted twice.

Before 2020 the pattern for most ebooks were if the ebook was released day and date with a hardcover then the ebook price was $14.99 wait 6 to 12 months for the MM Paperback and the price will be discounted to $9.99 at 6 months or fully discounted for one day at .99 cents at 12 months.

Some publishers I noticed follow this trend. At 11 or 12 months of release on the dot, the book will be featured as a daily deal for .99 cents or $1.99.

The fact is that when SS and Pocket started these monthly Trek deals it was March 2016 and every month was a new deal. For exception of 2 or 3 months in 2019 or 2020 there was none to speak of.

First JD and Stdyer (sp)?started the list and you could predict the web address forward a month or two by changing the month and year in the web address field and we were soothsayers and predicting the future, until SS and Pocket changed the web address and stopped the practice.

That’s why I included the webpage back than and make a full text list on the threads here in the forums. As a back reference for prices and titles, since you now can’t do that with the Trek deals.

Some ebook sales were to showcase different authors older ebook novels with newer releases like @Greg Cox or @KRAD for example.

Most times that sale ebook would increase after the initial $.99 price drop, then go from $5.99 to $6.99 or $7.99 the latest increases have been $9.99 to $11.99 with some ebooks at $15.99 the highest and why who knows? The is a Titan novel ebook at a ridiculous $15.99 when the rest of the series is way cheaper and discounted on the monthly deal. For some reason the Destiny series has been discounted 3 times, and the omnibus was featured once to be discounted, dropped and never discounted.

I encourage you and anyone to check the thread often to not miss a discount or sale posted here, and comparison price check with ereaderiq too. Although ereaderiq has had problems with Amazon and can be off price wise by a day or two.

All my thanks to all who post on here or who catch a deal on Amazon and elsewhere. It really is community effort from all who post and @Avro Arrow who moderates.

Sorry for the long post. I’m with @Avro Arrow too. It’s beyond time for series like Genesis Wave, or A time to series to be discounted.

As for redoing cover’s for ebooks like Star Wars with those HORRIBLE NEW SKETCH COVERS OR ADDING THE TRAMP STAMP GOLD LEGENDS BANNER. NOTE TO PUBLISHERS: NO THANK YOU. Save your time, effort, and money since it supposedly costs SO MUCH to digitize, proof, and add covers to said ebooks. Then treat it like a ACTUAL book. Do it once, get it right and leave it alone.

I think the only reason for these CHEAP, BAD SKETCH COVERS, is so the publisher doesn’t have to pay royalties for said actors likeness on the cover and mar it with awful artwork. Shatner’s likeness must cost a fortune these days LOL. I would rather see the authors get better contracts and better percentage profits than paying for wasting more money on these second rate so called cover artists and artwork. Just terrible decisions.

Publishers ended the continuity. Remember to the publisher continuity is worthless, and/or so is reading 700 ebooks like it’s series, so then stop with the PRICE INCREASES, HORRIBLE COVERS AND STUPID BANNERS.

The stories and the ebooks mean everything me, and I really could care less about the debate over continuity or no continuity. Just let me read and enjoy the stories as I and others see fit.

Besides TREK has always more CLASS, than to follow with such stupid gimmicks than Star Wars. At least on the Trek side we get to read great old stories featured in a limelight at .99 cents, than the shameful tired same Star Wars ebooks only discounted $4.99 or $5.99 that always sold well in first place. Just no variety or creativity at all with the Star Wars ebook sales.

Sorry for the slight RANT. By the by, I feel that someone from the publisher is reading this thread or checking it periodically. We have posted and listed ebooks on here early, and every once in a while that list or a price will be changed or one or two titles will be added to the sale, after someone has made a post on here. It’s too much to be coincidence honestly.

Full disclosure I am equal Star Trek and Star Wars fan PERIOD.

I’m sorry for the long read and post. I hope it helps.
Cheers,
Koric

@Koric , thanks for the research on the titles I listed. (Although I’m not sure where the stuff about new Star Wars covers and Star Wars novels in general, and publishers ditching continuity, etc., all came from.) (Update: I had a laughing emoji here. I guess the board strips those out.)

It made me go back and look again and apparently I started buying up all of the $0.99 specials starting with the September 2021 offerings (which is how I just missed To Lose the Earth and Rise of the Federation: Patterns of Influence in August 2021 and The Unsettling Stars in June 2021 but did get the other Kelvinverse novel, More Beautiful Than Death in September 2021).

However, I’m not understanding why you feel that these (and the other ebooks that have already been offered once or twice at $0.99) might not eventually cycle back around again. From what I can tell, most of what they are offering each month has already been a $0.99 special before, and some of them more than once.

If they keep doing these eight to ten per month, they are going to have to either repeat most of the ones that have already been done once before or start venturing more so into the ones that have never been put up at $0.99 (either of which would be a good thing for me).

(Seven of Nine, for example, I purchased on March 5, 2022, as a $0.99er. I wonder how many times it had been offered at the monthly discount before and after that?)

I read two books a month. One personal. One for book club. I don’t have the time to read at the rate the sales happen. So I might buy one with the expectation to read some time in the next twelve. I will miss a lot of sales as I don’t like buying books that I don’t read. So I’m good with repeat sales.

I’m depending on repeat sales at this point! (Laughing emoji here.) (Although, not really. All of the more recent ones I don’t already have I can get from the public library if I don’t feel like buying them at full price. And at the rate I’m going I won’t be getting to reading the later “Litverse” novels in several years anyway.)
