E-Book Pricing Alerts

The deals for April are up at the usual Simon & Schuster page. In addition to what Koric posted above, there are also listings for:

Captain's Peril (the complete trilogy is on sale, so everyone can enjoy it or not at a discount)
To the Stars (George Takei's autobiography)

I can recommend from my personal reading experiences Memory Prime, The Never Ending Sacrifice, and Before Dishonor.

@KRAD and @Avro Arrow I agree completely what you and KRAD said.

I am SORRY and want to APOLOGIZE I misused the word CONDONE thinking that I was taking a firm stance AGAINST said actions. I have read many posts in the past where you had reminded others about forum rules concerning this matter. I agree completely as to reasons you both stated that affect the forum and author’s personally. I was thinking also of the Diane Duane situation where she needed to reference an old work and turned to online to do so, and was surprised and sad that it had to come to that for both the author and publisher, as someone should have had a backup or archive copy to make reference to.

Personally it would bug me to no end to overpay and buy a used CD or anything and have some doubt in the back of my mind that it was a copy of an original and not the original itself, and never truly know or have that doubt there,

My apologies again. It was late, and there was no excuse for it. I also edited my post to be clear on my position so there is no doubt.

As a person who writes songs and lyrics and posts things online, I would not want someone taking or using my works for their own or in their own way as well, regardless of anyone’s reasons.

@KRAD I wanted to say thanks to you and all of the authors who take the time to respond to posts. Plus, I was truly excited each time to see your old books released as ebooks, to be proud to purchase them and throughly enjoyed them. Especially when you explained the contractual situations under which they were written and how they were written,

Again I apologize throughly, and hope there is no confusion as to my stance.

I guess you were thinking of "condemn" instead. Kind of weird that two words meaning opposite things sound so similar.

I don't think anyone here condones piracy, I mean we are in a thread about sale prices! I was just expressing my disappointment that a chunk of the Shatner books aren't available digitally. I read the when I was younger and wouldn't mind re-reading them, but I am almost exclusively using kindle for my books these days for convenience, space saving, money saving, ease of use, etc. I understand the logistics on why we may never see these released in ebook form, but still hold hope that maybe the higher ups have a Trek fan among them and might push to have all the Trek books converted to ebook (or at least the ones they have the rights for!) simply as a passion project. I can see that happening, as there are already many Trek books that have been converted that I wouldn't think would have. A great example is the TNG book Balance of Power. It's the first Trek book I bought, in a grocery store book rack way back when I was in middle school. I can't imagine it was a major seller, and I don't see it mentioned often, however it has been converted to ebook.

Plus, if enough people talk about wanting digital copies of these books. eventually they will likely at least be considered to be released as ebooks due to the market interest.

@Christopher yes that’s it exactly. Many thanks for conveying that. I feel really embarrassed since I was born in the US and being trilingual with English as my primary language, I feel dumb for making such a confusing mistake.
Thanks again.

@Leathco wholeheartedly agree. I still don’t understand what happened in the situation with Vulcan’s Forge, as it was on sale, then pulled from the US kindle store, especially since I bought Vulcan’s heart too. Can anyone explain what happened there and why it’s not returned to the kindle store? Especially since Vulcan’s heart is for sale too?

Honestly, I read and jump between my kindle fire and ipad using the kindle app on the ipad and jump back and forth when either one is charging.

I agree Leathco as I said I’m a completist. I really liked Ashes to Eden, and the Return, reading them in 1995 especially the short lived Defiant era Enterprise and the true TOS/TNG era casts coming together to fight the BORG.

I always wondered if Shatner et all, knew of the plot of First Contact, also known as the working title ST: Resurrection, writing a book so heavily plotted about the BORG, especially since the Return was released a year prior to First Contact. I love the Borg V’GER connection and it always made sense to me. That connection was used to effect also on Star Trek Online.

I just wonder why no ebook?

No worries, @Koric ! That's good to know, and thank you for clearing that up. To be honest, I had sort of wondered if maybe you had just forgot a "don't" or something, but I had to respond to what was actually on the page... er, screen.

But don't worry about it, all is good. We've all mistyped things like that before. Well, I guess I can't really speak for everyone, but I've certainly mistyped things like that before! :D

Oh.

Well.

That's different.

NEVER MIND!

Thanks for clearing that up, @Koric and my apologies for the harsh words.

Given that Simon & Schuster got on the eBook bandwagon way before everyone else, and given that 98% of the Trek books are available as eBooks, any Trek books that aren't available in that format are thus for a reason. And it's not because they don't want to have them in that format. Trust me, it's not because they don't think there's a market for it. The company policy is for every Trek book to be in eBook form also.

Does anyone know why some books, mainly older ones, are available as ebooks in the US and not the UK and potentially other markets.

So for example Dreadnought or Memory Prime this month.

I would guess it has something to do with the fact that a different publisher (Titan Books) originally released a lot of the earlier novels in the UK, so the rights situation is more complicated. It looks like consistent ebook availability in the UK begins with the first books published by Simon and Schuster UK rather than by Titan.

Hello all,

I just wanted to say a HUGE thank you to @KRAD @Avro Arrow and @Christopher for understanding and helping me and not judging me as well.

I also want to thank @Leathco too.
Plus to express my thanks and gratitude to all on the forums as well.

For some nutty reason I was thinking condemn, but thought and mixed it with the use of a sentence and definition “He was a man CONDEMNED to death”. But I truly meant to say CONDEMN period.

It goes to show you that the proper command and use of the English language is beyond critical, or others can misunderstand you drastically.

I just want to say that everyone on the forums has been nothing but kind and gracious to me, and I hope I have given the same thoughtfulness and kind consideration to others on here.

I think it is an AMAZING experience to communicate and give and receive feedback from all the Trek writers and know that you are approachable and gracious to respond to us the readers and give us a part of your time.

My thanks to all of you.

@KRAD thank you for your apology, but you have nothing to apologize for ever. I completely understand the feeling and the stance and truly respect and agree 100 percent with you as well. You sir are amazing, and thank you for your kindness.

@Avro Arrow thank you for being a kind, caring, and even handed moderator with exceptional kindness and patience when others make mistakes or stretch the boundaries of forum rules. I have read your responses over the years and have paid close attention to the circumstances when you intervened and why.

Your Meme made me laugh and smile, and KRAD’s response was classic as well. I wish I could meet everyone on here in person, but being able to be on here is a great privilege and experience.

Thank you all.

I’m happy to see that Captain’s Peril was indeed added to the deals of the month.

I ended up buying nine this time that I didn’t already have in eBook (including the George Takei biography).

I believe this brings me 165 Star Trek novels (also including short story collections, enovellas, and fictional “autobiographies”) in Kindle eBook format, plus two Trek nonfiction books in Kindle eBook format (the DeForest Kelley and George Takei bios).

Doesn’t include a whole bunch of Eaglemoss nonfiction books in pdf format that I bought from Humble Bundle last year.

And I still have my hundreds of paperback and hardcover novels from when I was collecting them all, up to around 2011 or so, including most of the ones I’m now buying second copies in eBook.

You're much too kind, @Koric , but I do thank you for the kind words! :)

And thank you also for all your positive contributions to the forum. Happy to have you as part of our little community!

Can I just check, the book Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: The Never Ending Sacrifice isn't part of the post-Nemesis (pN) list is it? I don't have it on my pN list, but the description seems to have it set post the DS9 tv-series.

It pretty much spans the length of the DS9 series. It picks up the story of a character from the 2nd season episode "Cardassians" and follows that character through the end of the Dominion War, concluding shortly after the end of the TV series. I don't remember it having anything post-Nemesis in it, but it's been a while since I read it.

It's also one of the most highly regarded DS9 novels by many who have posted here. I'd recommend checking it out!

The last section is set in the post-Nemesis universe, but it's only a small bit with a couple of key DS9 characters. It's perfectly understandable without having read any post-Nemesis fiction, and doesn't 'spoil' any earlier post-Nemesis books either. I say this as someone who hadn't read any other post-Nemesis stuff when I read The Neverending Sacrifice, and it caused me no problems (and I fully recommend it too).

The novelization of Into Darkness and Mission Gamma: This Gray Spirit are $0.99 on Amazon US right now; guessing these will be among the US May deals. Would be nice if the rest of Mission Gamma was marked down as well; it’s been seven years since that series was last discounted, and I wasn’t tracking the ebook deals then.
