Hey, people. I'm at a loss on something I tried to do, so I figured I'd ask you all for some advice.

I have downloaded some movies onto my computer -- The Hunt for Red October and Midnight Express -- and they're all in the Windows Media format. I sent a copy to a friend, but he says it won't play in his DVD player.

My question is: What format should I be downloading these movies onto a DVD so that it can be played on most DVD players? Is this a problem for someone who has a Blu-Ray only recorder? As you can see, I'm a bit ignorant of the ins and outs, so please be as basic as you can!

Thanks, all.

You'd need to transcode the files to MPEG-2, convert them to VOB files, and store them in the appropriate UDF layout together with IFO and BUP index files. You can obtain software to do this, but you'd be infringing copyright even more than you are already.
