Dune Part 2 2023 (24, 25, 26...)

Villeneuve officially confirmed he's ready to roll for part 2 in 2022 if given the green light.

If the studio decides to proceed i don't expect the movie to come out before 2024 :(

Yeah, he's been saying that for a few weeks now. It's in the OP. It's just found traction now as sites are maxing dune content for clicks.

In August 2021 Villeneuve confirmed there is only a treatment, and it is still on pause, however he personally has been working on the script in his own time and believes once they have the go ahead, the script will be finished quickly and filming could commence in Fall 2022.

Any speculation on casting choices for Feyd Rautha, Irulan and Shaddam? I reading recall Mads Mikkelsen being proposed for Shaddam. For Irulan, Saoirse Ronan would be my suggestion.

So film Twitter is lighting up tonight, with allegations from critics and entertainment reporters that Disney sabotaged this weekend's release of The Last Duel, limiting the number of showings each theatre could have. As an example, here is one of MZS' tweets on the subject:

The Last Duel, like the Terrance Malick film also referenced as being sabotaged, were greenlit under Fox leadership and are released under Disney leadership, with the theory that the new executives are tanking projects championed by previous executives. This is a fairly common occurrence when exec teams change in Hollywood.

Why is this relevant? WB was recently sold and Legendary is up for sale, and this exact situation has been talked about a fair bit as a possible outcome for Dune - incoming team killing outgoing teams projects. This is a current example of this happening.

Will it happen? Impossible to say. This is just an example of it happening right now, today, showing it's entirely possible.

I mean, that guy seems to just be pulling stuff out of nowhere. Ridley Scott is no stranger to underperforming films anyway (I'm not even sure if Exodus technically made money when you include its probable marketing budget, for example). He's not a guaranteed hit film maker anymore. The Last Duel is a R rated film about some random french knights having a fight (over a case of rape, apparently) that might be based off a true event. Outside of wondering if Matt Damon is even going to attempt a French accent, it doesn't have much to draw in the general audience over Halloween, Venom 2, or Bond. It makes sense that it would be doing poorly in general even if there wasn't still a pandemic, it doesn't really scream "mainstream success". If Disney really wanted to kill it they'd have just released in in January or February and did minimal marketing.

As it is, unless some real evidence comes out, it seems to me like Scott has made another film that the average person just doesn't give a crap about, and its performing how you'd expect an R rated non-mainstream film to perform right now (its probably also not very good based off his work in recent years, but the quality almost doesn't matter in this situation).

Whether all studio execs are complete douchebags remains to be proved. The non-commissioning of Dune part two if part one makes money would be evidence that they probably are. But what can you or I do? My solution is not to give them any more money.

Dune has been leaked online. Someone screwed up somewhere.

Unfortunately it's a version without the subtitles ( they do sometimes switch to other languages or use secret hand signals, which are subtitled).

Nothing too important, especially for people who already know the story.

WB had an interview with Variety about their merger and, of course, Dune came up.

In a frankly surprising change in policy (perhaps due to the sale of WB and Legendary being up for sale) WB said that while they are happy with the international box office, they are not ready to greenlight a sequel yet.

Now what about Justice League? :)
I kid of course. I’m sure this will get one.

She doesn't say it's a done deal. In another interview with Variety she and the other CEO specifically said that while it's looking good they aren't ready to make any announcements yet and need more data from the box office and HBO Max. This is just the typical encouragement to make people think it's a done deal so that they won't skip out on seeing a part 1 unsure of a part 2 was coming. They haven't even pitched the treatment to the Herbert Partnership yet and they've been sitting on it since April.

Personally i believe it's a 90% done deal despite Wayoung's hesitance ;)

Studios have moved beyond measuring a movies success by US box office alone, they are looking at the complete picture, i.e. international sales and now streaming numbers to determine if they will invest more money. Villeneuve is already in the writing process and could start pre-production immediately if given the ok, so i'll be positive and expect goods news until the end of the year at the latest, possibly even by the end of November.

I really hope we get a sequel despite the bad numbers. I want to see the next two movies.

My biggest hesitancy is the sales.
