This is the first time I've heard of this but according to this article from Bleeding Cool...Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson are going to be adapting "Dune" from Boom Studios! Starting on Free Comic Book Day with "Dune: Origins" which seems to be a primer book. I'm excited. I've been waiting for something like this for a long time.

Here's the cover to "Dune: Origins". Yeah I'm excited.

I'm not much for comic adaptions -- the original novel will be just fine for me. Plus, Kevin J. Anderson and Brian Herbert? The House series was tolerable, but far from Frank Herbert (even at his lowest point). How many mediocre Dune books have they pumped out since? Honestly, I've lost count.

eh, i might check it out. i'm not a big fan of what Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson did with the series though.

Yeah Pinky and the Brain are writing it...not surprising really...and I haven't got a clue who the artist is but if the cover is an example of his work then I'm hooked.

Boom studios is doing it so you know it's going to be good they do farscape.

dune rules!!

Pinky and the Brain are what Dune fans have been calling Brian and Kevin ever since the Butlerlian Jihad trilogy.

Yeah... it was earlier than that. I'm being sarcastic. It's just something I get tired of seeing on Dune boards... no offense.

Ah. I never tire of it as it's a fitting description in my opinion. That being said I'm excited about this. Also the artist named in the article I posted only seems to be the cover artist...which means we don't know the actual regular artist yet.

Well, this is unexpected. To be honest, I'm not overly enthused. Yeah, I'm a big Dune fan, I even enjoy Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson's work. I'll likely check this out when they publish all the issues as one graphic novel (which all comic books seem to do these days), but othewise I don't know. Seems kind of unnecessary. Herbert and Anderson should focus on more novels.

is there a chronological reading order for brian & kevin's books fitting with frank reading order?

You could find this out for yourself using google or Wikipedia...sigh but anyway:

Legends Trilogy (The Butlerian Jihad)
Prelude To Dune Trilogy (The House Books)
The Dune Chronicles (Original Frank Herbert Books including Brian and Kevin's finale)
Heroes of Dune (Current Trilogy)
Paul of Dune takes place inbetween "Dune" and "Dune Messiah"
Jessica of Dune takes place after "Dune Messiah" and before "Children of Dune"
Sisterhood of Dune (upcoming Jan 2012 release formerly Leto of Dune) will take place after the Butlerian Jihad trilogy

Timothy if you read the article then you would know that "Dune:Origins" is basically a primer book getting people familiar with the mythology and setting of the Dune universe. One assumes that "Dune" will be a straight up adaptation. Please read articles in the future instead of asking everyone to do work for you. In case you didn't read or failed to understand...here is the solitic for it in the Bleeding Cool article:

Dune: Origins

(W) Brian Herbert, Kevin J. Anderson (CA) Rael Lyra

Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson, New York Times best-selling authors of the legendary science fiction series Dune, reunite once more, this time to adapt their work at BOOM!. This FCBD edition will serve as an introduction to the Dune universe for fans of the Frank Herbert classic and new readers who aren’t familiar with the rich Dune mythology; a must-have precursor to the epic launch of the adaptation of Dune books from BOOM! starting in July!
